What is the current policy of the VA regarding therapy and HRT?  I know this information is available online but often the reality of the situation is a bit different than what is portrayed online regarding the VA.

If anyone has been involved with VA therapy, what are your feelings about it?  If I can do therapy through VA I will but if it is a nightmare, I'll foot the bill myself.  Thanks in advance.

  Hi Katie,

I am in the Portland, Oregon area and I am currently getting my medical through the VA. I current have a PCP that also orders my HRT medications. I also have a gender therapist who is also helping with depression. I am receiving speech therapy through the VA also. I've been with the VA for 4-5 years and I cannot complain about the one here. The VA has helped keep me alive when my cancer returned a second time. Yes, I have an oncologist there too. They are currently helping keep me alive by antidepressant medication and therapy. And they are helping me be the woman I have wanted to be all my life to the extent allowed by the current restrictions they have been given.

Hugs,
   Laurie

Thanks for the info Laurie.  I've never had a problem with services at the VA here in Omaha but all I've ever done is just a yearly checkup.  I'm probably going to have to do some more digging with some local groups to find out if anyone has went through therapy at the Omaha VA.

Also, I'm very happy to hear that they are able to help you with your other health problems.  It can be such a hit and miss with them but it sounds like you have a good one.  Good luck and good health in your future!
