It was a strange exchange. I appreciate everyone's insights. I just don't know why he was so critical of my hair now when two months ago it did not affect him at all. And why did he not recognize me? He has known me over ten years and worked together for two of those years.

All this does indicate that I am entering that 'awkward' androgynous stage. So I am considering growing a beard to buy me some time. I notice guys with long hair counterbalance it with facial hair.
