Years ago when I'd get a cramp in my leg while sleeping, my wife would instinctively rub it until the pain went away.  And somewhere along the road I was told that potassium would eliminate having leg cramps.

Now, when I saw the Endo she said my Potassium level was too high.

About a week ago I woke up with a terrible cramp in my right leg and then last night I awoke to terrible pain in my left.

I think I read somewhere that this would happen but am not sure.  Is this normal?

Thanks!

Leg cramps can be a side effect of Spironolactone.  Keep hydrated and it should help with them, it did for me.

Eat more salt too.  It needs to stay balanced with potassium and it helps your cells retain water.

Thank you.

I remember stuffing salt tablets in the service then later being told salt was bad for you, lol.  Had cut it out until I started HRT.  Now salt is everywhere :)

Assuming you're on Spiro, you need 64 ounces of water minimum a day. Not drinks, water. That is going to have you craving salt constantly. Cramps among us are a classic sign of dehydration.

The latest studies are showing that salt is not bad for you and except for a small minority of people it doesn't cause high blood pressure.  The salt RDA is way to low for healthy people that are active.

If you're on spiro, stop drinking crystal light immediately, it's loaded with potassium and the spiro causes your potassium levels to climb anyway. Water, sweetie, you need water and you need it now. Watch your potassium intake, and DRINK WATER!

Brew a big pot of green tea, add some lemon, and then put it in the refrigerator to drink all day.

All, being on HRT (Oestrogen & Progesterone) as well as having a bad leg ( debridement due to Erysipelas) I have to drink lots of water anyways. What I do is keep a steady supply of frozen lemon juice (from my own squeezed lemons) that I keep in the freezer  when the lemons are not in season and  at night time put one of the frozen "icy poles of lemon juice" into the water glass with cold water. As I go to sleep taking my Progesterone tablet I also take a  500mg Magnesium capsule, then if I do get cramp in my bad leg I immediately drink the lemon juice water "cocktail" and then another glass again. It always cures the cramp!

Thank you Judith Lynn,

I'm drinking water with lemon concentrated added because even filtered the water in North Las Vegas is so so.

It's frustrating to think about all the "can't" nowadays :)  but I truly appreciate everyone's input.

I carry around packets of True Lemon, crystallized fruit, to make water taste interesting, in case it just isn't at that particular moment.  But mostly I just throw down a pint glass of water every couple hours, I treat it like another medication.

Def tell your doctor if it doesn't stop.  Spiro makes you retain potassium so many tgirls end up with way too high of potassium levels, not to mention dehydrated. & the salt it makes you crave only dehydrates you more. I drink at least 6 bottles of water a day now, if i dont, i regret it.
Plus it could be a sign of potential blood clots...i hope not but you gotta be careful.
