Hairline Advancement

Hey everyone!

So I decided I will be getting FFS in December (almost a year from now): Rhinoplasty, mandible contour and tracheal shave and I'm thrilled. However, I decided not to get hairline lowering because I wanted more input form you gals about it. I have a terrible hairline and it has receded near the temples, even thought I'm only 20, this happened at age 15ish and has stayed that way since. I've always had a massive forehead (since birth). Anyways, I began HRT for about a month and I've heard that HRT can lower your hairline or even reverse receded patterns in some cases. So, do you recommend that I don't get hairline lowering and wait to see how my hair reacts to HRT? Or do you recommend I get hairline lowering anyways? Let me know!

With hair loss at such a young age, run, not walk, to your Endocrinologist and get a T blocker and an alpha 5 reductase inhibitor to prevent any more hair loss. You may get some of the hair back, but not much. Mostly, HRT just stops any further hair loss.

I am quite a bit older than you and I had some hair loss and I did have a scalp advance with my FFS. it helped some but not to my complete satisfaction.  There is a big scar across the top of my head and I will need hair transplants to cover that up and fill out the bald spots on my temples. Surgery can only do so much.

Not to be an alarmist.. but an enlarged head can also be a sign of something known as a cyst or hydrocephalis.  Honestly I'd get a MRI just in case... cysts are insidious little (big??) creatures in that they are present generally at birth but can get bigger and bigger if your head is hit.. eventually causing chronic headache issues, balance problems, etc..

As far as the hairline, it CAN regrow hair depending on how damaged the follicles were since you started HRT.. but generally takes a very long time.  Simply starting antiandrogens (like spiro) can do wonders to stop DHT from killing your hair,.  Noone can say what you will regrow, or even if you will.  Its all a bit of luck of the draw honestly.  At least you're attacking the issue now.. not waiting till 50 and bald.

Interesting statement! I've had MRI's before and nothing out of the ordinary was noted. My head is big, but not "holy cow whats wrong with her" big, if that makes any sense?

I'm currently on  spiro and  Estradiol and will probably up the dosage soon (my doctor is basically letting me take the lead) and we're doing it the "step-wise way" (start with small dosages then work your way up).

My current hair style (big and curly afro) amazingly covers the hairline issues I have, but of course, I do want more freedom in my life and to try new hair styles and what not. Interestingly, I have alopecia areata (a small bald patch at the back of my head, not due to normal male balding patterns - its an autoimmune disorder). Do you think this could be related to my hairline issues?

I mean, I currently am on a T blocker (I stated I was on HRT). I've only recently started, but Im on spiro and estrace, so would i need alpha 5 reductase inhibitor at all or should I be fine with my spiro and estrace?

Ask your doctor about Finasteride or Dutasteride  to stop any T becoming DHT, which is a bigger cause of hair loss.

Would that be necessary though once my T levels are super down? I feel like adding more pills might just be more redudant
