I am 27, 5'11, 240 pounds and very masculine looking, how do I begin feminizing myself?

Hi, Shipwreckedbard!

Welcome to Susan's.

Some things you can do are to begin facial hair removal, grow your hair out, and dress in women's clothes when you are able to.

If your long-term plans include transitioning, you should start talking to a gender therapist, with a view to getting referred for hormone replacement therapy.

Please feel free to stop by the Introductions forum to tell the members about yourself.  Here is some information that we like to share with new members:

Welcome aboard Bard!... I guess that would depend on what aspects of femininity are most important to you and what your goal with this process is...Transition?.... Off the cuff answer is therapy ...then HRT will help in many ways... clothes, hair, hair removal, mannerisms, body weight can be changed and all manner of surgeries can be undertaken should you feel the need...

What is it that you are seeking?

Let go of the things that no longer serve you... Let go of the pretense of the false persona, it is not you... Let go of the armor that you have worn for a lifetime, to serve the expectations of others and, to protect the woman inside... She needs protection no longer.... Thanks for the replys! Is there anything I can do to help things like making my butt bigger, shrinking my waist, ect.

I feel kind of discouraged because I'm ready to become a girl, I just feel like I waited to long so I'm stuck being manly. I see all these beautiful girls in they're late teens early 20s and I want so desperately to look like them.

Hi Again Bard...

If HRT and transition is what you seek... Exercise and the hormones will bring your body closer to what I believe you are seeking...you body fat redistributes to the butt and upper thighs... Further fat grafting to different areas is an option as well...Exercise will shrink your waist and loss of body muscle makes a huge difference... I use to be muscular from many years of surfing and lost 30+ pounds of muscle... I am down to about 137... Running is great exercise, I have always been a runner and I think it has helped my body shape a lot...

All this stuff takes time and patience... You haven't given us much as far as details other than you want a more feminine body... There is much to the process, far beyond the outside changes and if you seek to transition? Start with a gender therapist and all good things to you as you explore the road ahead!!!!

Take Care!!

Hello Bard!

Congrats on starting to consider your transition.  I remember when I started and how lost I was and seeing everyone who has started their transition.  I had so many questions including how to be more feminine.

I agree with the above posts - Start with a gender therapist.  You will be able to explore your feelings as well as gather some great resources.  Work towards starting HRT.  When I started HRT it gave me a huge sense of self confidence and relief.

Dress as the new you when you can as that helps tremendously.  After that, you will start to feel feminine.  I watch cis females to learn their mannerisms and I talk with them as well to learn how to relate and interact like another one of the girls.  It takes time but it will come to you and start to become more natural as you continue to practice.

All of us here at Susan's are happy to help and provide advice as much as we can to help you along.  If you need someone to talk to, please feel free to PM me.

Josilyn

I'll just reiterate what has already been said.

Get on HRT.

Start losing weight. One pound a week is sustainable and leads to more permanent weight loss. It seems slow, but after a year of that you're down 52 pounds. That's a lot.

Estrogen and your anti-androgen will help redistribute your fat and drop your muscle mass. That takes time, though. Think more like two to three years for everything to settle into place.

If you have a dark beard, start getting laser beard removal. This will do wonders for your face. So will the estrogen. And even if you have a relatively light beard, laser may help cut down on the darker hairs in your beard so that electrolysis takes less time (and money).

Body hair should largely go away with HRT. Give it time. And remember, most women have hair. That's why hair removal products and services are such a big business.

Start growing out your hair. Your goal is to have enough so that, when you transition socially, a stylist can cut your hair into a feminine style that complements your face.

Your height probably isn't an issue on its own. I am 5'10" and it hasn't been an issue for me. Your mileage may vary. And remember, there are plenty of tall cis girls out there. You're not going to be alone.

Most of all, you need to remember that all of those beautiful girls out there are doing a lot of work to be beautiful. Don't measure yourself against an unreasonable standard. I say that not because you are trans, but because you are a woman, and that's what society teaches all women to do. Every woman, cis and trans, sees every little "imperfection" in their body and wants to change it. You don't have to be a model photoshopped within an inch of her life in order to be pretty. You just have to be you. And when you transition, that's who you'll be.

Hey,
I feel much the same way as you except that I am 41, 6'1" and started at 320 pounts.  It is a month later and I am seeing a therapist, am going to trans support meetings in my area, have lost around 40 pounds (aim to start HRT around 225 where due to muscle loss I will hopefully lose another 40 or so pounds), have started wearing women's clothing at home and in certain safe spaces (therapists, support group meetings), started shaving body hair, am working on voice feminization (just requires lots of practice and working out of throat muscles), have started tinkering with makeup and am about to start laser hair removal on my face.  I voraciously read up on topics about all of the above (youtube is a great resource for certain things like voice feminization and makeup, I would also recommend a youtube channel called the transition channel) as well as topics about various trans surgeries so that I can plan my transition better.  If you want to pursue some feminizing surgeries, you will have to work with a therapist as they are the gatekeepers to those paths.

It can be a difficult road, but so far it is one I am finding worth taking.  Us ladies are here to help, ask away!

First of all-- There is no set template how a woman should look. Women come in all shapes and sizes, just like men.

LIttle things can make you feminine..

Shave your legs and your arms
if you can grow your hair
and pierce you ears

These are little things, that is easily reversible can but can make you look a little more feminine.
Enjoying ride the hormones are giving me... finally becoming the woman I always knew I was

I feel that femininity comes from the inside; it's the essence of who I am; changing your body starts with good nutrition and exercise, and the process of changing your body that has been developed by testosterone, depending on various individual factors, can take several years.

I certainly agree that being feminine comes from inside, but not all of us knew the nature of what we were dealing with in our youths or even middle age.  The lady inside of me has been locked away DEEP inside for 41 years!  She had NEVER seen the light of day even while clawing to come out.  Now that I know that she is me, I have to embrace her and work gently with her to express herself.  This is happening more and more every day, but it is a learning process as I unlock thoughts and feelings that have been off limits up until now.  Maybe she is the essence of who I am but she sure is shy and uncertain and needs time to build confidence.  As I am sure you know, this isn't an easy path we journey down and it doesn't happen overnight.
