Gender discussion in school - how much knowledge is "normal"??

Hey there,

so...my teacher announced that next week we're going to do a class on the topic of "gender politics". Which, while talking about it in class, will likely contain the topics of transsexuality/transgender as well...

Well, now my head's doing somersaults on the question of "how much is normal to know on this?" Because...I obviously should and want to take part in the discussions, at the same time i'm scared that i might out myself or at least draw attention if knowing too much out of the regulary.
You get what I mean?

So what's your opinion?
How would I feign "normal knowledge"?

Just dont talk first, see what other peeps say and then add a bit onto it. You dont need to go into alot of detail to get a point accross

If you go over the line, you can always say somebody very close to you is transitioning so you leaned about it to help them.

Is this grade school? Approximately what level? Don't know what school is like where you live, but the conversation could vary based on what level of the education system you're in.

Ugh I feel this all too much (as I'm sure many of us do). Not only is it obviously unethical to politicize the existence of a people, but it also doesn't even make much logical sense...

A school close to university / kinda inbetween highschool and university. My classmates' age is everywhere between 19 and 29.

Yeah, don't do what I did and talk about it ad-nauseum.  I have learned to reign it in now but if I hear anyone being transphobic or way off factually, I'll wade in and correct them which is not really the way forward if you don't want to out yourself.
