What are your most hated foods?

Umm, no.  Actually the stuff in your link looks interesting and infinitely more appetizing than the stuff I remember.  I think what my mother made was something she had come up with by herself.  I have not seen the like ever since -- and that is a very good thing indeed!

I've made beef tongue. It's actually pretty good. I only made it once though. I had served it sliced nicely on the platter. My dad and brother liked it and Tyler asked what kind of meat it was. When I said it was beef tongue he and my dad wouldn't eat another bite of it. My dad asked me what was wrong with me that I would serve him tongue. I honestly hadn't thought they would get skeezed out over tongue. I felt kind of bad until I remembered my dad ordering horse meat for me when we were in France.  Now we are even. Lol

Oh. Lexie will try anything. Everything is fair game. With 2 exceptions. 1. Do not think of serving felines. And 2. If you value your very existence: do not serve Lexie horse meat.

Beef tongue makes awesome tacos and burritos.  It's weird looking when you cook it, but very tasty.


I have had camel ribs once, they weren't all that great but they were done by army cooks in Kuwait so it's probably way better when cooked by people who care.

Spanish rice is a relatively simple recipe though there are variations on it as I found one including peppers. The indication that something was wrong with your mother's recipe is the pressure cooker. Pressure cookers work well when you need to apply some serious heat and I have used them for just that however rice is something that needs to be cooked slow and just barely at boiling. If you get impatient cooking rice you will turn it into soup or it will be crunchy, neither which will do the rice justice. Some of the best rice I have ever made was just a cup of white rice, two cups water and about a quarter stick of butter. Cook at a simmer for 15-20 minutes and that's it.

OK.  I Googled "Spanish Rice Recipe" and found all sorts of hits -- each with a picture.  None of those resemble what I recall seeing on my plate as a child sitting in a pool of disgusting liquid with what I recall as a vile smell.  I never had good rice growing up.  I seldom even try to cook with rice up to this day.  When I make Chana Masala I just eat it right out of the pot even though it should be served over rice.

I will eat rice.  When the soccer team was rescued from the cave in Thailand the boys said they were looking forward to eating pork and rice.  That lit my lights.  Last week I went into town and while there I made a point to go to the Thai restaurant and get pork and rice.  That hit the spot.

Obviously the food I didn't like was not cooked right -- and that is why it is still a bad memory.

Childhood was not a happy time for me...

The Japanese make great rice cookers.  I started off with a cheap Panasonic rice cooker.  I now use an automatic Zojirushi cooker that I load up in the morning and set the timer for when I get home from work.

You are right about that.  I never bought one with a timer, perhaps if the old ones I have ever stop working, I will.

Well hatred is a word i try to avoid using, much less feel.  And then, I am one of the most picky eaters i know of that has survived to such an ancient age.  It would likely be easier to list the foods I do enjoy.  I truly do consider it a disadvantage for traveling and being invited to dinner but remain resolute in indulging myself.  And health?  Well our bodies manage to turn most food into simple sugars capable of being transported about and used by cells. 

My food pyramid has a base of pizza with is perfectly flat and can contain innumerable toppings.

Now back to intolerance.  I avoid most green vegetables and fruits.  Yes, i am Vegephobic.  Vegephobia is an eating disorder usually associated with children who are gifted with stubborn jaw clamping refusal and can endure periods of fasting.  I learned early to skip meals and later about the gag reflex and power of the glottis to shut down or hurl it all back as a projectile.  They gave up trying to make me eat anything.

I sometimes like to invent and assert a "Vegephobics Manifesto":  Plants are living, feeling, reactive and, according to some, thinking beings.  With the advent of human agriculture wild plants have been forced into domestication, hybridized, synthesized, and coerced in to monotonous rows over vast acreages that are cultivated and frequently dosed with pesticides, herbicides and any number of chemical additives or fertilizers.  Let earths plant life live free and in peaceful coexistence with humanity!

Consider that at the prime of their lives millions of innocent, slow moving plants are mowed down, plucked and plundered from the ground or snatched from shrubs and small trees.  Processed by the ton, young and unwilling, plants are abruptly killed by suffocation, cut off, wrapped in plastic and then offered for sale in the ghastly dead plant aisles of supermarkets.  Even baby green spinach leaves are eaten raw!  Oh the carnage of a salad maker!

Being an occasionally moral person I know my tongue and cheek may not amuse the virtuous vegan who allows for more people to live simply by eating lower on the so called food chain.

I will admit to liking pea soup though........ ;) ;) ;)

I can't say I've seen fried rabbit heads for sale anywhere.  I can't imagine it's all that much different than the rest of the rabbit flavor wise though.


Escargot is pretty good when done well.


But since I'm on a chili theme today, I have to say that I absolutely detest Cincinnati style chili.  I know it's not related to Texas chili, but the cinnamon and other flavors combined just rub me the wrong way.  I've tried it from a few different places (not just skyline and gold star) and simply can't get into it.

Well, rabbit heads and fish heads, whether fried or not, instinctively are high on my ewe / yuk scale.

I have eaten the whole fish as little dried fish or sardines though.  Neither are on my list to try again soon, but they were not disgusting.

I too dreaded liver and onion's as a kid. We had a school dinner lady who would scare the Gunny & Chuck Norris who yelled at a kid on my table to eat it like it was boot camp. He turned green with each mouthful til he blew chunks like the Exorcist scene

Cant eat raw onion and have to watch out for processed stuff with onion powder (think that's what does it) don't want to do TMI but stomach cramps and ratchet strapped to the loo time!!! When I was little mum used to get a pigs head from butchers and boil it to make brawn, I liked the tongue meat. Liver and onions (as long as they are cooked out!!) is nice as long as liver is not over done.

So, dry tough liver isn't what you like. My mother ruined steaks the same way. I remember on holidays driving to my parents place just to turn the stove to 250 degrees to save the turkey.
