Hey guys,

I've read probably everything on the internet about this...and can't find anything from guys who actually LIVED this...its all opinions...

I'm on my journey of doing both- top surgery and going on HRT. As is, I'm really small there, so not sure if it matters either way?

I talked to a few surgeons and they all vary...some suggest doing it after being on hormones, some say it doesn't matter.

Which did you get first? Does it really make an impact on results if you go on T first? Or vice versa, if you got surgery first- do you feel like you made the right decision, for you?

Thanks
-Sam

I went on T first then had top surgery. I think as I've got a naturally stocky build and have gained some muscle from T;  I don't think my results would have looked right if I had top surgery first.
The surgeon matched the aesthetic appearance of my body type to my chest. So I look like I have pecs rather than having a washboard flat chest;  which would look strange on me.
They/them pronouns preferred.

I am planning top surgery first but most guys I know in person do T first... largely because the average wait time for top surgery here is much longer than the wait for T.  You can get good or bad results either way.

I went with hormones first because that's what would help the majority of my dysphoria first and it was the more financially reasonable option. Surgery required saving, but I was able to get hormones for relatively little money. I think for me, T helped because I'm a bit stocky and being able to feel my pec muscles helped my surgeon decide where to place my nipples. However, a good surgeon will be able to get that placement right whether T has helped those muscles or not. I also have a friend who isn't on T and doesn't know if they want T, but they do know they wanted surgery, so they went with surgery first. Their results also look great! They've helped their dysphoria in a way they were comfortable with and still have the time to decide if T is right for them or not.

I had my top surgery after starting T. The only thing that had any effect on my pre-op chest was the binding, T didn't do any difference there for me as far I could tell, so I don't think my results from op would have been any different if I had gotten surgery before testosterone.

However I've heard that one more reason some surgeons want for patients to be on T first is because of potential fat redistribution. I had very minimal of that happening, and only in my stomach and hip region. The fat in my tits remained the same, but binding made them a little less firm. My chest was medium size (about B- or C-cup).

I think with a very small chest, there could be a slightly higher chance of fat redistributing from there when on T, and although it might be a very slim chance, it can mean you might not even need top surgery then. Or more likely, if you'd get peri, on T you might have less tissue to remove compared to pre-T. Or with working out and being on T you could also potentially reduce the size of your chest before, or without top op.

I did not work out, early on or later on T, and didn't have any detectable muscle mass, on chest or otherwise, by the time of surgery. Hopefully I will someday in the future, but I think if I will my chest would look fine with bigger pecs, but pecs might not hide my scars very well due to their position. But that I'm not sure of, cause at this level of un-fitness, I'm not entirely sure if I even have pecs somewhere in there... I had double incision though.
