Hi im a mtf Tran-woman That has recently Moved back to minnesota ( i was born a Raised in Mpls )  ive been Living full time as a Trans-woman from the age of 13 ( I Just recently turned 24 ) i have yet to start HRT but have my sec. appointment this sat March 10th! i know from years and years of research i have to be on hrt for the min. of 1yr to undergo srs ( Grs ) or Breast Aug ( Please correct me if im wrong ) ?!

i currently dont have health insurance and ive held back on signing up on any because im not sure which will help cover my srs ( Grs ) and Hrt! So if u live in minneapolis and could take sum time to talk with me this week before my appointment that would be greatly appreciated.

My meeting is at " Park Nicollet " in Mpls with Julie Farias, MD ( who ive met once before years ago before i moved away ) and i dont wanna drill her to much when we meet ( even tho thats kinda her job ) i just rather be more educated and have more info before i meet her and i can only find so much online !

when it come to srs ive been doing research on surgeons since i was 15, the only surgeon ive ever considered doing my sis is Dr.suporn in Thailand, but my a friend of mine came across an article on the web saying they recently just started doing srs here in Minnesota and i could save money and have it done in my home city that would really be a blessing ( but im sure its easier said than done ) !

i read many of the ladies comment on the original post but i couldnt help but notice no one has recently posted anything in a couple weeks and most answer to question that where asked were walked around and sugar-coated ?!

so if anyone is willing to take sum time to give me some helpful info and open to sharing some personal exp. it would mean the world to me !

Hello BajanTsGyal, welcome to Susan's!

I am not familar with Dr. Sukit or Dr. Manrique, but I had GCS/GRS recently in Arizona with Dr. Ley at Toby Meltzer's clinic.  I am super happy with the results.

My GCS was performed 6 months after i started HRT.  The surgeon was aware of that, no issues.  WPATH guidelines required by insurance carriers will be looking for a minimum one year living as female gender prior to GCS, and a couple letters from therapists of physicians (one of the letters will probably need to be a PhD.).  If you desire GCS and haven't met with therapists who can provide the necessary letters prior to surgery, that's something you will want to start planning for.

The other thing to plan ahead for is permanent removal of hair from the surgery site.  Since hair grows on a somewhat random schedule this often requires several months of electrolysis.  Laser can significantly reduce hair density based on hair and skin color, but to reduce the risk of anything growing back I went with electrolysis.  Some surgeons do not require hair removal, and and some do - this is something to discuss during your evaluation.  I wanted to reduce the risk of potential complications so I spent a full year of electrolysis down there every two weeks before the surgery.

Since this was your first post I'll add information to help with navigation, and site guidelines.
