Hi everyone, just curious what you all think. Do you celebrate a birthday, other than the your actual birthday, for yourself? If so, which day do you use? The day you started living full time as your correct self? Not everyone has GRS, but for those that do do you use this day? The day you get a letter from your therapist? Any other special marker?

I have a "new" birthday, but it's not trans related. May 4th, 1986, the day I quit drinking.  :)

Hugs, Devlyn

For me it's August 25 2015. Coming out to myself was a weeklong process, but that's the day where I asked myself "so what do you want to take hormones and have a sex change operation?" And I realized that the answer was yes. I started hrt on August 22 of 2017, so maybe I can have a multi day type of event.

Do what I do, tell everyone you have multi-personalities and that covers the birthdays.  Now, getting people to give you presents on all the different days is a little more difficult but easier than switching religions for holiday gifts :)

I was thinking of making it a multi day holiday like Holy Week or Hanukkah.

Problem is with that you have to switch back and forth :)

Not sure on how to put this but:

Happy Birthday!
Congratulations on beginning your journey!
Welcome To Susan's Place!

Let me be the "unofficially" first person to welcome you here.  I came to Susan's pretty confused and ignorant of many things last December.  For the most part, I have found caring, friendly, and awesome people here.

One of the "Official" folks will be along shortly to both welcome you and point you to a few links.

I started hrt not long after my birthday (7/8, 7/17), so I wouldn't count it as a second b-day. Maybe the day I went full-time (1/24).

First of let me start with saying that anyone of us who is trans, is so, regardless of "where" in his or her transition. No one is more or less trans.

Having said this, each on of us is unique and has different ways of dysphoria. For myself my GRS was so emotional and life saving that I do consider this my re-birth. So October 4, 2017 is my new birthday.

Other dates are also important, like when I came out or started HRT, but they did not have such a great emotional impact as my GRS. Again, having or not having GRS doesn't make any of us more or less.

Hugs, Erin
I am a K. MacPhee girl, re-born on October 4 2017 in Raleigh/Durham NC. USA
I was AMAB on May 6 1963 in Dordrecht, the Netherlands.

OUT and proud - 2014
HRT - 2015
Legal - 2016
GRS - 2017

Full Time - 01/01/2015:
first day (01) of new life (01), '15 = opposite of 51 (my age at the time)

Congratulations Melanie!

I am happy with my true birthday, but I am leaning towards the day I told my wife that I was transgender. Every since that day my life has been getting progressively better and I am lucky that my family is sticking with me and fully supporting me.

This is a really cool idea, Brandi! I totally had not thought of it.

I haven't done anything major yet, so I might not be 'born', but I consider April 1st(Easter Sunday) when I changed the path I walk in life; I started to become a new person on that day, so I think that is what I would celebrate as my birthday.
Looking to make and keep friends! Spreading the love, now that I can truly love myself!
