I'm 18, been out and presentating publicly for several years. I made the appointment today, I was lucky enough to get a cancellation and only have to wait a week (!!!!!) And I was wondering, what exactly happens at the first appointment through Planned Parenthood? I'm both very excited and very nervous. The lady doing the intake was very nice on the phone and only referred to me as Mam and Alexis, so that puts me at ease. Any info is helpful (Preferably someone who is a fellow New Yorker (not the city))
9/07: privately came out to my older sister
9/15: came out publicly as mtf
8/16: name and gender "unofficially" changed on school records
4/18: started hrt
8/18: legal gender and name change
--/19: SRS

I'm not in New York but I did mine at PP.  My first appointment was mainly answering a lot of questions and blood work.  I went back to a room and my vitals were checked.  I talked to two people about me.  Then another person came in and drew some blood.  One of the people came back in and we talked a little bit more.  I checked out and drove home.  Later that night I had my HRT meds in my hand.

Since I'm 90 minutes away from my PP I do a lot of stuff over the phone.  Normally at first they will want follow-ups every three months.  I managed to do this over the phone and using my local doctor to have blood work done.  I went back last week since it has been 9 months since they last saw me. They didn't recognize me at all.  I got a new med added and I do another follow-up by phone in 3 months.  They don't actually want to see me for another six months.

So that is my experience with PP in Texas.  I liked it.  It went well enough for me to recommend that route for those that don't have other resources.

Yeah this is correct i go to a facility in Raleigh NC and it pretty much mirrors this.....You will probably be prescribed your HRT  when they get the lab results back.  It only took one day for me.

My experience at the Portland OR PP was just like Robyn's.  The nurse practitioner I worked with was super enthusiastic and helpful - she was ready to provide whatever I wanted, from the minor dose of oral HRT I was interested in initially, up to transition dosages of injections or patches.  They're completely non-judgmental of course.   On my last followup it took forever to get in and the NP was in an awful hurry, they do a lot of business, and a few months back I switched to just using my PCP, whose offices are right down the road - getting to PP's center always involved fighting a lot of rush hour traffic.  But they got me started on this journey, all of it available via signing informed consent papers, and I'll always remember the experience fondly.

Their website's set up very well, too.

I just went yesterday for my HRT consultation. Not PP however. Actually I saw an OB/GYN at a major university. She was highly recommended by my therapist who is also affiliated with the university.

She deals with many trans people and was probably the kindest doctor I've ever met. She spent at least 45 minutes just talking with me. She went through my family and my own medical history and then told me what would be the best treatment for me.

She said I should have my blood work done and then she would prescribe the meds. Fortunately I had fasted so they did the blood work right then. Actually, my results just showed up on my patient portal so I think I'll be hearing from her quite soon.

Try to relax. It was actually a pleasant experience talking to someone who is an expert. Hope you have the same experience as I did.

Oh by the way. You look quite feminine. Not like the old guy I do. Should be fun.
