Seeking Thoughts About A Name I'm Questioning

Evienne

Hillo reader.

-----(skip this section if you don't care about the backstory)-------------
So something that has been on my mind lately is my name. The name I have on this site was one I just threw out of a hat long ago and I don't go by it anymore. Recently I got active on this site again and haven't changed it yet because I'm having trouble on what I want to do with it.

I've gotten to a point where I realized I don't really feel a connection to the name I have been going with either. I've always been bad with names and thought maybe what I need is just something that is much more uncommon and enigmatic sounding. So I've been thinking about that lately.
But one day I was just cooking some ramen when suddenly I just randomly thought of a character I loved from the beta to a cancelled game I played. The name "Evelyn" came to my mind.

-------(my point)-------
I remembered her name was "Evelyn" and I started to think on it and was thinking it had an interesting sound and it connected to the character I liked. I opened my handy dandy internet and googled her but realized I was wrong. Her name was not Evelyn, her name was "Evienne."
So that is what I have been thinking about lately, the name Evienne (pronounced eh-vee-yen). It's a very rare name ranking 6,045th place in popularity for 2017 according to baby center. That was actually an increase of over 10k ranks though from 2016 XD
Did a little research to see it is associated to the lady of the lake in some renditions of king Arthur stories and of course it was the name of that character I liked. So it is both enigmatic, and uncommon which is what I was looking for.

But here's the thing, I want to know what other people honestly think about it without my bias thoughts. Because, it's very rare. I'd assume most people haven't heard of it before. Maybe people would have no idea how to say it. There aren't any well known people with the name. So basically my question is, is it too much? Would it not really be the best idea after all? How do I know if I should change my name to it? Really, I'm just asking for feedback on it because it has really been on my mind lately and wanna know what other people think.

Thank you for reading, please let me know your thoughts.  :icon_cute:

I heartily approve of rare names.  ;)  A friend recommended Devlyn for me and I just love it.

Where does Devlyn come in on that list, by the way?  ;D

Hugs, Devlyn

8,847 in 2017 a decrease of about 1k from 2016. So, interesting...that's even more uncommon yet I didn't even notice. That is interesting to see.

I love rare beautiful sounding names, but honestly, that isn't what is important about picking a name, it has to 'feel' right to you, it has to connect with who you are and the reason for that connection may not even make sense to others. For instance, I picked my name because it felt right, but I also like the Greek mythology that comes with it which actually fits me to a T; Cute babe rejects the advances of a man and is cursed with a gift of prophecy to always be right, but never have anyone believe you...

But, yes it's a very nice sounding name.
Of all the things you can be, being yourself is the most important.

You make a fair point Cassandra. That is also a very interesting story. Pretty neat. ^^

There is a character named Evienne in Fable Legends (video game) is that the game you were speaking of? Anyways, I decided to use Google translate so I could hear the name spoken and I think it is pretty epic in my opinion. That name is of course not of the norm or mainstream but that is what you wanted correct?

My real life name that I go by since I transitioned is Blair, which is a name that I got from an anime witch character in a show called soul eater. While it is a popular name, the reason why I chose it was because I am a weeaboo lol. I tell people were I got the name to and if they don't like it then i'll give them the bird (not really lol) and move on with my life.

If you like Evienne (I do) then take it and be proud of it. Do not let anyone's judgment stop you from being happy and such. Life is too short for this  :icon_censored: honestly.

So yes, you should take the name.

Hmm..I hope this was good advice?

Well thank you very much TicTac, or should I call you Blair? :p
You are 100% correct though. I was referring to Evienne from Fable Legends. I loved her so much. It's also freakin awesome that you know that! Like really really awesome! Did you play in the beta too? I'm so sad that game was cancelled DX It was so cool and so fun.

FreyjaValkyrie

Go for it girl.  I've had name issues in the past too.  Nothing seemed to fit well for me as a man.  In high school, my nickname was seph, when I presented as female it was sephy, and all my friends just sort of knew through experience which one I would respond to when.  For a while I even went nameless, which was enlightening.  When I realized recently that I identify more as female than male I chose a name with power and meaning for me.  I'm a norse heathen, devotee of  Odin.  Freyja is his female counterpart.  Goddess of lust and war.  It felt like a perfect fit given my temperament and predilections.  Although, to be perfectly honest, I've been in occupations with ranks so long I tend to think of myself by rank in my head.  When I talk to myself, I'm more likely to say "well, corporal, that was a mistake" then "well, Freyja, that was a mistake".  Even my friends and family know that's how to get my attention.

I say all that to say that I think it's great you've found a name that is meaningful to you.  Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Keep fighting,
Freyja
