A Republican candidate for Congress in California filmed herself confronting a transgender woman using the women's bathroom at a Denny's in Los Angeles.

Jazmina Saavedra, who is campaigning for a seat in California's 44th District, streamed the incident on Facebook Live on Tuesday.

"I'm trying to use the ladies' room and there is a man here claiming that he is a lady," Saavedra said, entering the bathroom and filming outside the stall.

"You're invading my privacy," the transgender woman inside the stall said.


"You're invading my privacy because I'm a woman and I deserve to use the woman, the ladies' room," Saavedra responded.

She then left the restroom and waited outside for the individual to exit. . . .

I saw that.. talk about actively trying to destroy another person.  Evil evil evil.  Just to make a political point you try to shame, embarrass, and out this girl?  I hope to hell it really does go viral and she gets sued for defamation, libel, slander.

You know. I acknowledge that people have the right to their opinions about us. I may not like those opinions, but at the same time... So be it, not everyone is going to approve of everyone else no matter who they are, and I accept that.

But this... this insanity is wrong, and goes far past any private opinion. Above all else is the idea that she was in danger, that she repeats several time. Where does this idea even come from?! What danger? Did she really think that the trans woman in the bathroom would suddenly burst out and attack her? If she said it made her feel uncomfortable... so be that as well. But this whole unfounded idea of violence which is entirely counter indicated by all scientific evidence...  and then the harassment! I hope the trans woman sues the hell out of Denny's for escorting her out like that.

On top of that, she was the one with the pepper spray and stun gun.  I wouldn't feel safe around her.

It is disgusting. I decided to report this video as harassment. California is pretty good in Transgender protection, so I hope the ACLU or another organization does something here.

Why do you say that?  You think she did it to perhaps improve her standing with voters?  There are some who do this sort of thing, even though they're not running for office.  There was one, a while ago, when a CIS woman was harassed and accused of being a man in a women's washroom.

If it is fake then somebody has gone to extremes to make it look legitimate.  The woman in question has both a Facebook page and another website http://www.voteforjaz.com pertaining to her campaign as a Republican running for Congress.

She supports President Trump's agenda for the benefit of making both, a Greater America and Safer America. . . .

I meant that the video looked set up, not that she isn't running for office. She ran for another California office earlier this year and didn't make the list of qualified candidates. I  think her antics make her unelectable, but that's opinion.

A little more about Saavedra:

Challenger Saavedra, a Bell Gardens resident, is a founding member of the Latinos for Trump political group. She is also the Spanish-speaking spokeswoman for the Christian Coalition and Make America Great Again Inc. "The good people in the 44th District of California deserve to have a candidate who will reach out directly to them and focus on the issues of employment, reducing crime, empowering the families and providing our veterans with the respect they deserve, among other things," she said.

Saavedra doesn't see any problems with being a Trump supporter in the race for a largely Democratic district. "I'm not a politician, I'm a citizen," she said. "It's not about Democrats; it's not about Republicans. It's about God."

Saavedra ISN"T going to win.  California 44th is a VERY atypical Congressional district.  The population is approximately 70% Hispanic, and Democrats hold a 6-to-1 registration advantage over Republicans there, according to the Elections Division at the CA Secretary of State's website.  In effect, Saavedra is a fringe candidate in the the 44th.

Nevertheless, she is quite representative of the tendency among backwards candidates to look for  opportunities to leverage bigotry and fear of trans folks for political advantage.  Why?  As she says: "It's about God."

Speaking from my own experience as a former "hard core" believer, if you really believe that there is an invisible God who will punish people and even countries because of rules written throughout the Bible then it becomes a supreme matter of self preservation to oppose anything you think is opposed in the Bible.  At one time, not really all that long ago, I really believed that the murderers of abortion doctors were doing a righteous thing and would be rewarded richly in heaven.  I counted it against myself that I was not willing to do the same. 

Part of why I ultimately left all of that behind was some personal introspection that showed me how warped I was becoming.

I, too, see this as staged in the sense that the candidate was, I think, lying in wait to video a "gotcha" moment that she thinks will somehow garner her a few more votes.  It will certainty appeal to her base, but I don't think it will impress very many swing voters.  Swing voters are where elections are won or lost.

I doubt very much that she even needed to use the restroom for anything other than her political statement.

You know what one should do? Reverse-troll her. Telling her she has another chance on doing that """great""" publicity stunt with another transwoman... but send in a cis-woman and see how she is completely attacking her despite her being completely "GOP-normal". It's like a reverse-Turing-Test. Just by being told a person is trans too often brings forth confirmation bias... It is so sad.

In California we have the right to use the restroom matching our gender identity. People most definitely do not have the right to photograph or harass others in the restroom.

And the transgender woman did claim that the transphobe was following her. Possible stalker?

What isn't fake tho is that this really plays well with the Republican base.

Maybe her immigration status should be called into question LOL  Why do some of the least attractive women on earth worry about being accosted? Does she actually find herself to be interesting in some way? Did E.T. ever phone home? I am mystified

She does seem to be an actress looking for a stage to perpetuate her own bigoted ideals though
