Does anyone have experience with transitioning on the NHS? I have been on the waitlist since November 2016 and could possibly take another year just to get my first appointment at the gender clinic. I am wondering if it's better to wait or have my operation elsewhere. I am ok with waiting, my only concern is the expertise of the doctors that perform srs in the UK.

Hi [emoji4]. I'm currently on the NHS pathway.

I was originally referred in Apr '15. I had my first appointment in Mar' 16 and the second part of my assessment 6 months later (as normal).
I'm currently working towards my GRS, I've been full-time for just over a year, and HRT for 10 months.
There are faster routes, but there few places in the world that will fund GRS for you, and HRT, and give you some funding towards hair removal.

Hey, thanks for your response! Wasn't sure there were people from the U.K. on this website. I had my referral in December 2016 and I suppose it will take at least one more year for my first appointment. I realize that the number of referrals has increased exponentially so the wait time is much longer now. Can I ask how long it will take for you until GRS? I am curious about the total wait time from referral to operation. Also, how much money is offered for hair removal? I have already been doing that on the side and my beard is almost gone, but wouldn't mind the help for other areas of the body.

Timing is highly variable. I'm hoping to get referred for my GRS in july, but the surgery date could be another 6-9 months depending on surgeon and any hair removal needs. I had an extra 6 month gap in my journey, as I wasnt ready to go full-time or start HRT at the second part of my assessment. GRS referral does require 1 year of both HRT and RLE.

Funding for facial hair removal is currently at £1575, this can be spent however you choose on laser or electrolysis.
