IS HRT A DEFINITIVE SOLUTION TO HAIR LOSS (MPB) ?

Hi girls, i would like to hear your experience about hair loss, expecially from those who suffers of Male Pattern Baldness before starting hormones. Here my questions: 

- did you completely stop hair loss due to MPB after starting HRT ? OR
- did you have any hair regrowth while on HRT or just stopped it? OR
- did you continue lose hair even on hormones?

Final question? Your therapy is estradiol only, estradiol + progesterone, or do you use also antiandrogens?

Works for me. baldness stopped and even reversed a bit. Started on spiro and estradiol. Now on Zoladex (t inhibitor) and estradot patches. Hair is still quite thin, but the balding spots are all gone.

I am on estradiol and spironolactone for the last year and a half.  My rate of hair loss has slowed way down, as measured by what comes out in my comb.  It is possible that I actually have a net gain, because the almost-bald spot on top looks a little less thin.  Or that could be wishful thinking.  At any rate, the MPB doesn't seem to be getting any worse.

It comes too late to do me much good.  I can't go out without a wig or at least a hat.

Same here. 15 months of Spiro and estrogen pellets. Hair loss stopped with about 10-20% regrowth. I had a quarter sized spot that was nearly bare that is no longer visible. But overall my hair is still extremely thin on top.

Thanks girls for sharing, the 1-2 years before HRT i lost a lot of hairs, last year summer i used to lose around 90 hair/day, and after 2 months i started hrt (estrofem sublingually + androcur) i started to lose less hair day by day, but now, after almost 1 year of hormones, i'm using again hair (maybe now 50-60 a day). Generally my hair seems a little better, but still losing 50-60 hair a day is not a nice condition.. maybe it is a seasonal effluvium i hope, even because i usually lose many more hairs in spring and summer than autumn and winter..
anyway any other experience is well accepted

HRT should stop MPB but it won't stop the thinning of your hair for any number of reasons.
Talk to your doctor if you are having concerns.

It's normal to lose 80 hairs a day but they should be growing back in a cycle. I know that does sound like a lot though. As was mentioned, you should talk to your doctor and see what they say.

HRT should stop MPB but it won't stop the thinning of your hair for any number of reasons.

^This. I started hormones at age 57, and I am now 60, so I am probably not a good data point.  I was taking spiro, estradiol, and finasteride. I can't really say if it helped my hairline.  I can tell you it didn't get any worse.  I already had pronounced MPB in the temporal region and some on the crown. 

I ended up getting a scalp advancement, and later a hair transplant.  That has helped my hairline, but there is little I can do about the diminishing number of follicles on my head.  My hair is very thin, and I can see a lot of scalp when I take a shower.

I had 2 rounds of grafts 6500 grafts and my hair is awesome. My T is non detectable and I take a little every 2 days. I am on a high level of estradiol.

I feel a little better with the T and need to apply more.

My hair grows fast. I take one scoop of collagen each day.

Collagen is in you hair, nails, skin, muscles and connective tissue. We need it and if we do not get enough we have less than optimum results in the areas that use it. So if you get adequate collagen then the body parts that needs it grow and maintain function well. Hair needs collagen. So getting adequate collagen helps hair to grow. Also, it helps your skin and reduced wrinkles.

I have found the T was the main component in body hair growth. My body hair was gone at one year with the exception of leg hair which is sparse and thin and grows slowly. My arm pit hair grows very little and it takes a long time between removal.

Generally speaking if you are on HRT, hair loss progression should be stopped. If you do not wish to go HRT route, there are some other options you could consider but they act mainly like testosterone blockers. Products include finasteride (Propecia) and dutestaride.

In 2 clinical trials the results showed that dutestaride has better effects than finasteride (faster hair growth/restoration of the "vertex" of head, front and rear showed no difference). Adverse events profiles are very similar between both agents.

Another agent that may be used is called Minoxidil TOPICAL solution (NOT oral tablets) but how it works is unclear.
