I was caught at age 16, and my parents had me "fixed, so I'd grow up right". I got "conversion lite", testosterone injections to override what my body was doing and masculinize me, and religious counseling to impress on my the nature of my perversion and make sure I understood that if I ever backslid I would be involuntarily committed and given a course of electroconvulsive and aversion therapy (and a prefrontal lobotomy if uncooperative).
This was considered to be the state of the art in loving parental concern.
The treatment was quite successful, changing me from a quiet, effeminate A student to an angry, hairy and sullen D student, flirting with drugs to dull the pain, and frightened to come out for decades afterward.
I am not entirely sure that allowing this sort of treatment for children today will be in their best interest for their adult lives.
I am pretty sure that there are those in our culture who delight in tormenting those different from themselves. Some have created a profession for themselves and tied it to religious belief systems. They are not however entitled to a guarantee that their business model will be protected by the government.
