Hey all! I posted here last year when our organization was just getting started, but I thought an update might be in order.

Transcend is a non-profit organization based in Iowa that seeks to support the transgender, non-binary, and gender nonconforming community. We hold support group meetings in three locations (Charles City, Mason City, and Waterloo) and are looking to expand into a few different cities by fall.

We also have a Clothing Closet in Mason City where trans folks can come find clothing, accessories, and toiletries, a Lending Library of LGBTQ books, we do LGBTQ events such as potlucks, game nights, movie nights, etc., and offer LGBTQ training to businesses, schools, organizations, communities, and families. You can learn more at our site, www.transcend.lgbt.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or email me at jess@transcend.lgbt. I'd love to hear your thoughts, and I hope to see some of you at our meetings! :)

When do the meetings take place? I am located in Cedar Rapids. Waterloo isn't too far away for me.

I'm in Mason City. Is there still groups around? I really could use some help and guidance.

Hello RickiDonna

My name is Sarah B and I would like to formally, Welcome you to Susan's Place!

You mention in your first post here on Susan's:

This is an old thread nearly 6 years old.  However the original poster provided a link, but that link is no longer valid, which I'm sure you have tried.  BlueJaye one of our members may know of some support groups in the area.  I will let her know.  You could try googling for 'trans' help in the Iowa area and see what comes up.

Susan's is here to help you if we can and all you have to do is ask.

Once you feel comfortable here, it would be appreciated if you add a little bit more about yourself in the Introductions Forum, of course.  I would appreciate it very much as, I'm always interested in learning something new about new members

In addition members of Susan's will more than likely will discuss problems or issues that are similar to yours as most have experienced these as well.

Please review the links at the end of this message, especially the red links, they include information which will help you navigate the site and use the available features.  When you reach 15 posts, you will be able to send and reply to private messages and you will also be able to add an avatar to your profile, until then if you have any questions about the Susan's Place site and the Forums, please feel free to contact, the Forum Admin Danielle Northern Star Girl alaskandanielle@yahoo.com

Take care and all the best for the future.

Once again, Welcome to Susan's Place!

Best Wishes Always

@RickiDonna,

Welcome to Susan's Place.

We are always eager to share information about Support Groups that are local to their areas. We have members from all over the world, so it is a difficult task.

If you locate any in your area, please return here and let us know! We all learn from the experiences of others, so any help or advice you can offer our members is certainly welcome.

Please review the links provided by Sarah B, as these are important for new members.

Once again, welcome to Susan's Place!

Unfortunately, Mason City is about 2 hours northwest of me, and I really don't know what is available in that vicinity. Mason City is not really very close to any of the bigger cities. Waverly is a bit a of a drive, but has a college campus. It could be a good place to look. College towns would be more likely to have support groups.

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.
