After finally mastering the Purple Dilator I am making plans to step up to the Blue Dilator and I am scared! Mr. Blue Dilator is THICK! OUCH!

May I ask of you ladies, at how many weeks post-op did you begin the Blue Dilator? I am at 9 weeks post-op. Am I being too ambitious?

Hi, what diameter is the dilator?

I was on the 1.5 inch diameter dilator at 6 to 8 weeks. My diameter was large to start with. I started with 1 1/8 inch diameter and quickly moved to 1 1/4 inch diameter.

Thank You Rachel! Currently I am using the 1 1/8" Purple Dilator. Next size up is 1 1/4" Blue Dilator. Then 1 3/8" Green Dilator. My set does not have the 1 1/2" Orange Dilator, but I can buy it for $55. I will try Mr. Blue tonight then. That extra 1/8" diameter shouldn't hurt too much....I hope. ♥

It sounds like I have the same kit but with the Orange dilator included. I started on the blue dilator right away per my surgeon's instructions when she showed me how to dilate. (I'm a large girl at 6'5) I went up a dilator about every 4 weeks.

My surgeon recommended the following and it worked well for me. When going up the next size dilator. Start with the size you have been using and dilate for 5 min and then switch to the next size dilator and dilate for the normal amount of time with it. I did the for about the first week or so after going up a size then I was able to start with the newer larger size. The orange one took the longest to be able to do that and even then I really have to relax for it.

Finally, remember this. There is no such thing as too much lube!!!!!!!

Good plan! Thanks honey! I was going to start with the blue dilator tonight, but since I have to walk a lot tomorrow I thought it best to wait. I remember the pains of getting used to my current purple dilator and OUCH! Now here I will go again!

A couple days ago I was looking at my dilators and wondering how each minor 1/8 inch (1/3 cm) difference in diameter is such a mountain to climb, but it is.  I found each additional size quite difficult and painful the first few days.  You may want to take an over-the-counter pain reliever a half hour beforehand.

If you are skipping a size, don't get frustrated if that doesn't work.  I don't think I could have done that.  If you can't get there from here you may want to consider buying the next size up.

From the Soul Source website:

Below are the conversions from diameter to circumference for our dilators:

Diameter       Circumference

1/2 inch          1.6 inch

3/4 inch          2.4 inches

7/8 inch          2.7 inches

1 inch             3.1 inches   (Orange)

1-1/8 inch      3.5 inches    (Purple)

1-1/4 inch      3.9 inches    (Blue)

1-3/8 inch      4.3 inches    (Green)

1-7/16 inch    4.5 inches

1-1/2 inch      4.7 inches

1-5/8 inch      5.1 inches

So I am going from the Purple Dilator to the Blue Dilator which is only 1/8" larger in diameter, but is 1/3" larger in circumference. It's amazing to me that the skin can stretch that much! I held off on the Blue Dilator until today because I can stay home. Appointments yesterday.

Each size up really does seem like a Mountain to climb. I am hurting a little bit just thinking about it!

I've been using the blue for a few weeks now. But I was a bit bigger than that diameter wise prior to surgery. It's an ordeal to move up but you'll get there. I'm trying the green but it's just not there yet.

Just take it easy and don't skimp on the lubricant.

I should note in my kit it's the LARGER orange dilator (1½" diameter one) so it would be:

Diameter       Circumference

1-1/8 inch      3.5 inches    (Purple)

1-1/4 inch      3.9 inches    (Blue)

1-3/8 inch      4.3 inches    (Green)

1-1/2 inch      4.7 inches    (Orange)

Yup, Sydney that is the sizes and colors of my dilators.

Ok, start with the 1st dilator for 5 minutes. Then then next size. Continue 5 min each until you get to the size you are ending at. 30 minutes total.

When I when up in size I would lube well and give it a little twist back and forth and apply gentle pressure. There is no race and no prize in the end so go slow.

I finally got up the nerve to try the Blue today. I could only get it in to the first dot! It hurt and burned so bad! Now I am afraid of it. I did use lots of lube and I started out with the slightly smaller Purple for 30 minutes.OMG Blue Hurt!

I don't think I will ever be able to take that Orange one! this Dilating just gets harder and harder, but I am determined. I just can't walk too well right now!

I have been doing everything you mentioned honey and even using a syringe to pre-lube myself, but I am just too tight, or something.

Today I finally tried that Blue Dilator and all I can say is Damn! Do I really need the Blue? I mean, not too many guys are that thick are they? I would be happy to stop at Purple, but I think you ladies are going to tell me that I do need the Blue Dilator and I will keep trying. I just wont be able to walk or sit for very long!

Violet,
Rather than worry about this dilator or that, would it be better to just maximize what you can do? Even though I tended to push for bigger sizes, I remember looking at bigger sizes and being intimidated like you are. I just tried to do a little more gradually with a new dilator and before I knew it, I could take the whole thing. Of course, I don't think I dealt with the pain that you are. My theory was that trying for bigger sizes would be easier earlier, before the scar tissue was able to form bonds that would tighten things up. Perhaps for you, you have to be more patient with your healing than what I had to. Sorry having one of those 'hard to put into words nights.' Guys come in all sizes. If you find the love of your life and he is on the bigger side, well, I guess I am back to my original statement on maximizing what you can.
If I ever offend you, let me know. It's not what I am about.

I was lucky in a way. I was able to advance in diameter early on when the nerves were still pretty much cut and not reconnect.

Also, before my scar tissue contracted I was able to orange. When it contracted dilating became horrible. I later had a major revision. Now I dilate without pain.

Many of us size-up in anticipation of current or potential male partners/adventures but there is an additional factor to consider.  For health reasons it's inevitable you will need a medical exam with a speculum.  Routine annual check-ups are easier and less painful if you are able to use a dilator size equivalent to a standard clinical speculum.

I remember when my smallest Dilator hurt like Hell. Back then it was hard to dilate, but somewhat easier these days. Somehow I will succeed! Thank You Rachel! ♥

Thank You Moni! I am so curious to try intercourse and possibly orgasm as I have not had that pleasure for over two years now. Maximizing is definitely the best thing to do. So in the morning I will be back at it! ♥
