Just wondering if anyone has been asked to do one of these 350 question, personality questionnaires as part of getting your surgery letter? I thought I was done and was waiting on my second letter from my Psychologist which she promised me last week. I emailed her today asking what is happening and she sends me this personality test under the guise of its to cross the t's and dot the i's. I am not impressed and am wanting to decline her request, at this stage I have sent her a polite please explain.

I would tell her no and for her to act in a professional manner. I would also tell her that you will forward her request to Michelle Telfer, President of ANZPATH so that it can be discussed at the education day at the annual meeting on the October weekend as a way not to conduct herself. I would also inform Andy Ives of this stupidity (and your psych!).

I wanted to Update how this has played out.

I had a call from the Psychologist today and she told me that the letter was nearly done and that if I didn't want to do the PAI she had another one I could do, I told her I wasn't happy about doing either. She said that there had been no formal assessment tool used during the time she has known me and hopes that won't be a problem for me, but she is fine with me not wanting to do any of it. She also added that feels the 3 years she has known me to be a good enough basis to get to know me. When I said to her that if the letter was missing something or needed clarification Mr Ives would no doubt let me know and we can revisit it then, she seemed a bit happier, she added that if he requests it then I will need to do it. I can live with that although he is not going to want it, so it doesn't matter.

She has hurt her back which is why she was a bit slow to get back to me OUCH!  She will send the letter tomorrow. I explained to her that it was pretty much the last thing I was waiting on. I explained to her I have an Eight week calendar countdown where certain things are due by certain dates the first being these letters due mid next week in Melbourne.

I don't know what is expected to be written in either of these letters and nor do I really care that much so long as it covers what Mr Ives wants covered...I assume the basis is something like " has this person met the WPATH standards of care criteria" yes? Great! let's get on with this. ;)

I took the full test in the Army, but they don't share the results with you. Later I took the condensed version at a work seminar, and they did review the outcome. It was fascinating, and an eye opener. The test nailed my personality, and revealed some of my flaws to me. I used the information to improve both myself, and how I interact with others.

Personally, I would jump on the opportunity to take the full assessment again.

I have been seeing this woman for 3 years...if a test like this is required then I feel it should have been administered during the therapy where it could have done some good...She and my Psych discharged me from their care well over 12 months ago under the understanding they would write the letters I need for GCS. The Psych wrote his at the appointment I went to see him at, the same day I saw her to get her letter, which after 2 weeks I have still not received. They were completely happy with me and my mental health..so what the point? Its not as if we were going to sit down and constructively go through he results....

I am glad you got some benefit from taking the test however there is no benefit to me. If it was purely for the purposes of curiosity like yours then the context is different and you have nothing riding on the outcome....so what the heck...why not!! That is not the same as my situation.

I will put a further note to when the letter is finally recedived which she promised me yesterday would be today. As of 10am I have received nothing.

Take care

Liz

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.

I live in the same city as LizK and I can't say I've ever had to deal with any gatekeeping that wasn't mandated by law - which was repealed several years ago.
This is not medical advice. Always consult your doctor.
