... she says, "If you want to be a woman, you have to start doing this for yourself."
All I wanted was some boiled eggs   :icon_blink:

Maybe I should follow up with, "It's not that I want to be, I am".

yeah, no. I think I'm on the losing side here .........

Yikes. Yes, though the statement could have been phrased more, uhh, diplomatically, the sentiment is obvious.

I'm way ahead of you on this one. Around here, it's always been if I don't cook, we don't eat.

Learning what has been considered women's work has been the accepted bane of girls for ages. I'm not saying the stereotyping is right mind you....
But the fact is you are way behind on the learning curve. Time to catch up girl.

@Stephanie
I could tell what she meant/intended, I chose to be literal .. does that make me a bad person? :D

@Laurie

full disclosure, the way she says it with the tonal inflection that you 'guys' ... Ok Ok GALS sheesh, don't call the lynching squad ... where was I, oh yeah, the ways she says it that y'all can't hear in text makes me feel good.

The past eighteen years in the closet away from the prying eyes of myself and my wife...  So then I come out and my wife tells me I better start doi...  "Wait.", she says.  "You have always cooked, all the time.  You have always done the dishes, all the time.  You always help with the laundry.  You always help with the kids.  You always clean the kitchen (after all it's pretty much YOUR kitchen).  You help cleaning anything else that needs it and I've never had to ask..."

I say, "Yup, now you know why I've always been your domestic b!"

She actually laughed at that and then accused me of trying to "Outwoman" her.  Ugh.   :(

I suppose it could be worse.  Good luck with the eggs.

Boil water to a soft rolling boil first.
Carefully put the eggs into the boiling water.
8 mins soft boil, 10 mins medium boil, 12 mins hard boil.
Remove the eggs when done and place immediately into ice water.
Let sit in ice water for 10 mins.
The shells will fall off like three hour slow cooked baby back rib meat from the bone and they will be cooked perfectly.  :)

Hope this helps.

Hope you don't make the egg boiling too hard on you...

For me, it is 3 different cooking times. One egg with the bottom (where you poke the hole) up and 5 - 6 minutes cook time depending on size, one with the bottom down and 6 - 7 minutes cook time and one 10 - 12 minutes cook time and peeled. It could not get any more complicated... Oh, and if one thing is wrong, I am in trouble...

At least we like our steaks cooked the same.

And oh yes, I have been confronted with the "out-woman" my wife too... Not only that, but I was also accused of now playing the "blonde girl" too much.

It really proofs stereotypical gender roles are stupid - well unless... I can play dumb girl and get $300 off my new laptop. Yes, that worked just fine for me :D

On a serious note: Sorry Faith. I feel for you being on the losing side...

Stay strong!

Hugs,

Sarah

I take it that, with all these specialty ways of boiling an egg, throwing them in a pan of water on high heat, going to watch a movie, letting them boil dry, turn black, and smoke up the kitchen is not one of them?

good thing I've never done that :P ... I actually can cook, it's just not a preferred thing to do.

My whole thought on this topic was about how great I felt that not only is my wife, um, informing me of the 'girl thing to do', she is picking on me about it. My wife gave up picking on me years ago because I would be a mean nasty b-tard about it and get mad. The fact that she's comfortable picking on me again is a huge deal.

You are right, there is actually a very good message underneath - your wife teasing you about things women are expected to do is actually a very nice sign of acceptance.

And you got lucky.... once a month I get a "Is it this time of the month again"... usually a day after I am done with my progesterone and she catches me with my hand in the pickle
Jar....

Fun...

I do lots of cooking, and love to cook.  She is my prep chef and likes it.   What Ps her off is that I get all the credit....so I am now sharing the credit with her.

Her line in the sand was that I had to start on the ground floor with clothes like she did, and could not buy nicer pumps than hers.

Eggs...I love hard boiled eggs.  New method.   Put eggs in cold water, bring to a boil, shut off stove, let sit for 10 plus minutes....cool....perfect every time.

Hugs

That seems like the classic "The kitchen's over there, you want a sammich go make it yourself" more than a jab at your authenticity.  :)

You are all impressively scientific with the eggs!

My method is:  boil water.  put toast in toaster, wait a little bit, crack eggs into boiling water (for soft poaching) then when toast pops butter it then drain eggs and put them on top.  Works most times...  ;D

I agree with what you said, but not in this context. I knew exactly what she meant, as evidenced by my follow-up posts.

I don't think poached style eggs would go very well sitting in olive juice for a week :D

Ah, truthfully I didn't read the rest of the posts until now. I frequently answer the original question, not the discussion that follows.  :)
