"An open letter that denounces attempts to define gender as a binary trait based on anatomy or genetic tests has gathered signatures from more than 1,600 scientists.

"The letter, which includes the signatures of eight Nobel laureates, was written in response to a memo drafted in spring of 2017 by the Department of Health and Human Services, according to the New York Times. The memo reportedly urged government agencies to adopt a legal definition of sex 'on a biological basis that is clear, grounded in science, objective and administrable,' according to the Times. . . .

"'This proposal is fundamentally inconsistent not only with science, but also with ethical practices, human rights, and basic dignity,' the scientists wrote. 'Though scientists are just beginning to understand the biological basis of gender identity, it is clear that many factors, known and unknown, mediate the complex links between identity, genes, and anatomy. . . .'"

This is extremely encouraging, I just wish all humans could be so enlightened...perhaps with the steady drumbeat of education, people can think and decide more for themselves as these scientists have. That perhaps we are not as constrained by nature as we thought--that humans can evolve within themselves in ways that confound dogmatic natural selection--to see that humans can, unlike other forms of life which do not enjoy the tools we have; the written word, a great facilitator of the storage and accumulation of knowledge of the ancients and those who learned to interpret and build upon such learnings (e.g. all from mathematics to multiplicity of human languages to philosophies and beyond--to technology and data, and even artificial intelligence), choose to self evolve; and such is natural because we are most certainly all born of nature and all deserve respect and love when we radiate it outward to others...

Let us hope this is not treated like Global Warming. <sigh>

It will, by some.  Only because there will always be those who refuse the knowledge of their own failings.

I know someone who will argue till blue in the face that dinosaurs are a hoax and the world has now every species ever created and that the world is 6000 yrs. old.  Oh, and that I'm going to hell for spitting in the face of god by defying his "Order" to be a man...  Ugh.
