Coming Out

Hi again everybody!

This weekend I came out to a few more of my friends (and at this point it is most of my friends!) and they were supportive! After this, it got me thinking that maybe it was time to tell my mom.

I couldn't get her alone (because she and her new boyfriend are basically joined at the hip) and so I wrote a little coming out letter and put it in her car.

Now I am just waiting for her to read it at some point. The ball is in her court now.

Just thought I would tell you all! I'll keep you updated with how she takes it.

Good luck, you feel much freer after coming out. 
And you will have setbacks. 
I came out to my longest female friend last night, and it was a disaster.  But I will get over it, and you will also get over any hurdle somebody will put into your way! 
You are young and have a long wonderful life as a female person in front of you!

Congrats on coming out to more friends, that can't be easy & great idea with the note.
I may use this idea with some friends.

Dietlind I'm so sorry your friend reacted badly, I just don't think anyone can ever be totally sure on reactions but she may come around with time x

Update: my mom found my note this morning and is so much more supportive than I ever imagined! I was having a little trouble getting to sleep last night because my nerves were wracking ever since I hid the note, and now i know it was for nothing!

Thanks ladies!
Shortly after I wrote this here, I called my favorite niece, who is a Methodist pastor.  This was the best outcome I had so far.  We cried a little, she because she is loosing her beloved uncle, and I because she cried.  She had a million questions to understand the entire thing.  She is so positive and plans to make a sermon out of it to teach her parish that good created all kinds of people and that we all are gods children.  She will gently prepare her parents and her brother about my situation.
I slept really good after this experience!

   Congrats on your successes. Very glad to hear things went well. Dietland, you have a real positivity to get you past a "telling" that did not go so well. I'm gonna say something that might sound screwy, but I miss coming out to people. It is because it is a rush to tell people who you really are. It also lets you see who they really are. Of course when the telling doesn't go well, it is hard, sometimes devastating. That is when we have to be resilient, knowing that we can find people in the world to support us. We have to be true to who we are and sometimes some small minded people  need to be left behind. Janna, I see your confidence building after telling your Mom. Way to go!

I can't believe how much relief I feel being able to tell my mom and so many other people over the past year. I feel so liberated, that I can't believe I have ever lived any other way. I am so happy right now that I want to tell my professor and my graduate school program. I feel unstoppable!

This has been the best birthday I have ever had in my life, and I think I (and you all) probably know why!

Oh, Happy Birthday!

I came out to a male friend yesterday,  Boy was that easy!  Prior to this I was afraid, he would get out a base ball bat and beat me to smithereens.  But no, he was absolut cool (it might have help that he was from southern California).

I go by the nickname Linde now, and he called me by that name immediately and kept it up in public later.
coming out is really liberating and kind of fun.

I am a member of a socio-political discussion group, and we have a meeting today.  My two girlfriends (the ones I went shopping with) are also members of that group, and they want me to come in girls mode today,  I am looking forward to this, to come out for about 15 people at the same time!

Hey Linde congrats! Hope it goes well. If you put your name on your profile, people here will call you that too. Its a beautiful thing, you two seem to be inspiring each other. I kept a list of people I came out to. It was like 200 people. Now there's  no one left.

I came out to the group yesterday, and it was a ball!  Everyone was excited and wanted to know more about this intersex and transgender stuff.  All very positive questions just to gain knowledge on the subject!

I have only one couple left to come out to.  My neighbors who are from Kuba.  Their English is not that good, but we are real good friends, with a very traditional male/female role understanding.  I might want to wait with coming out until their daughter is around who speaks perfect English.

It would be nice to come out to them soon, because she has a nail and pedicure studio, and I would really like to become her customer.
I am just to chicken to try to come out to them right now.

Once I have mastered this last hurdle, I do not care what the rest of the world thinks about me!

I think it is smart to wait until you can communicate with your neighbors effectively and I wish you luck! Just remember, if they are really friends, then they will accept you for who you are, even if it might take some time.

Just stay strong and power through it, knowing that after you do this, you will be free to be yourself!

Thank you for your encouragement!  I am in female mode now most of the time.  I hope that they just see me and start a conversation on their own.

I actually planned to be gender fluid for quite a while, but it seems that my desire will not allow it.  I was cloth shopping with one of my girl friends again today, and my female wardrobe is growing like a cancer!  And I love every bit of it!
