Trans women and daily dressing

I do wear jeans but mix in nice slacks as well as skirts and tops.  My sister told me when we were shopping once that I didn't need an excuse to look nice or to wear a dress.  Amen to that!

Wow have things changed.  I used to be that person that stood around saying, "come on honey hurry up..."  Now I'm the one that needs hurrying up BIG TIME.  Most days it's some form of a dress for me be it long or shorter with flats or low heels.  However, I do wear jeans or leggins with an appropriate top, or "yoga pants" depending on what I'm doing. 

It's the makeup and hair that take me soooo long.  Ugh  Sometimes "man mode" would be a whole lot easier and faster.

I suspicion that getting ready as a guy for me was quick essentially because I didn't care beyond not smelling.

Basic makeup does not take too terribly long. The hair definitely takes longer but that is mostly because I care now.

I suspect a actual guy in a guys body could find a way to fill the time that I never bothered with.

I'll clarify that  a bit.  Its the only public place I go without makeup.  I don't go full  on always. The gym is just tinted moisturizer and eyeliner.

I lived in jeans for 40 years... had enough of them. Simple as that.

Exactly! Although I much prefer dresses and skirts, they just aren't very practical for me when it gets windy or the high temperature for the day is below 40 F (4 Celsius). Sometimes I wear fleece-lined leggings which are really nice and reasonably warm, plus they are thick enough to hide most panty lines. There are still times when jeans are simply the best or simplest choice (almost always with knee boots), but the jeans I wear are stretchy and really snug -- unlike the 'relaxed fit' jeans I wore before transition.

I also feel naked without a bracelet and necklace, and if my ankles are visible I wear an anklet too!

I had to wear dull, boring, functional clothing for over 50 years. Now that I can wear whatever I want, why would I want to go back?

I'd love to feel that I will be perceived as female no matter what I wear or without makeup.  I'm 6'2" and started transition at age 54.  Probably not happening for me so,  clothes and makeup.

And I do wear women's jeans plenty.  Skinny jeans to be precise.

I love my dresses.  I do have a broad range of attire.  I try to be among the best attired people in any venue without going over the top for the circumstance.  I need all the help help I can get.

With winter setting in and my current trip way up north to New Jersey, I packed mostly jeans and sweaters.  Not the loose and baggy kind, either.  I have some assets and I am flaunting my wealth.  There are a couple of dresses in the luggage, just in case I get the chance.  Never leave home without 'em.

I just like looking good in whatever I wear and dressing appropriately for the occasion, whether it's work, school, running errands or different social settings. That could be jeans, leggings, shorts, dress, skirt, whatever. I love clothes, shoes, different fashions, and I love to shop. That's  my downfall.

Tonya I agree.  I don't always go full on with makeup.  I rarely wear eyeliner. 

Miss Katie I don't associate jeans with being guys clothing.  My jeans are definitely feminine!  None of that baggy look for me!  Ouch!

I am with you.  I have not owned any jeans for many years (I always wore some version of khakis).  I now like jeans leggings and other types of pants (Capris etc.).  If I want to be a little more dressed up, I wear those very wide full length dressy pants with a nice fitting top.  I do not own a single skirt or dress and do not plan to buy one in the near future.  I think a dress would not look nice on my 6' tall frame.

I am not quiet sure, but many people here say dresses match especially well with tall women. I am also 6'.

I have to loose some more weight to be able to present myself as you do!  I am not overweight, for a guy, but I am definitely not an elegant looking woman, yet.
I wonder if I ever will be able to walk in those high heeled shoes you wear.  But I bet you learned this when you were way younger!

I plan to loose about 20 lbs, and that would bring me down to about 175 lbs, and than we can see if dresses would be something for me.  I currently really love those wide , long, elegant pants with a nice top on them.  They almost look like a long skirt.  I have several of them and like to wear them if I need to dress up a little.

But I must admit, I probably will never look as great as you do!

I prefer skirts, but I live in Canada, where skirts are not practical for half the year.  I will wear anything that I would have been afraid to wear when I was pretending to be a guy.  I never would have dared to wear skinny jeans, so I am perfectly fine with wearing them now.

A weight of 175 lbs or 79 kg is not obese for your 6' height. In summer, I see a lot of big women wearing dresses in meetings held in Europe or N. America.

And the long term goal of 145 lbs is not realistic. My body is like that of athletes, but it is very difficult to main maintain 145 lbs (66 kg). I can maintain 145 lbs only during the fall after exercising hardly in the summer.  In winter, my weight bounces to 150 lbs.

I have many very cute tops, skirts and dresses that are not practical to wear for well over 6 months a year in the climate that I live in.   

I have made certain that what I do wear for cold weather can be as feminine and pretty as possible... there are styles of clothing that work well and are almost dressy in situations like that.   We don't have to walk around dressed in men's looking clothing at all. 

Women have so many more pretty clothing options, even if they are not dresses and skirts.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.... we have the same cold weather issues to deal with.

I would describe my usual daily style as "soccer mom", which fits perfectly into my environment. In the summer this can be a casual skirt while in the winter it is mostly jeans. I do have a few "sweater dresses" I like to wear with opaque tights to keep me warm. In general, I try to mimic what other cis women in my age range wear. this can also simply be some form of leggings and a simple top. No need to go overboard to shuttle your kids around.

I dress professionally seeing clients which is mostly business casual or business professional. Occasionally I do dress up during a normal week. Mostly with a casual dress or skirt.

I have the best sweater dress from Victoria Secret. Once I've lost my weight I'm going enjoy taking it out for a spin again.

You are right, 175 might be as low as I can get without starting to look starved.  I am of Viking decent (my first and last name are as Viking as they come), and my people are rather big boned and muscular.
I will never ever be able to look as petite as your are, because my bodies physics don't allow this.  My biggest problem in this area is the size of my rib cage, and my bra has a band width of 44 inches.  I might loose an inch or two when I am down at my target weight, but even for the best case I still would have a band width of 42 inches, which is not really petite.

I wish I could look as elegant as you do, but I have to be realistic and work with the body mother nature gave me, and make the best of it!
