Hello, I was on HRT for just a bit over a month before but had to stop about a month ago (for personal non-medical reasons).  I had tender lumps behind my nipples, and they are still a bit tender, but not as bad as they once were.  They are nodule like lumps right behind my nipple on both sides.

Because of those nodules, I know that things were going to starting.  I am about to go on them again in a few weeks, but I would like to know if anyone else has had this happen to them, and when I go back on, will it be like starting over again from scratch or will things pick up from where I left off (assuming the same dosage is provided)?

Also, please let me know any other thoughts that you might have.

Just a bit about myself, I am in a position in life where I am very successful in the male role, and I will need to maintain this for as long as I can.  I am a father of two and a husband.  My transition will be kept very private.  I don't anticipate on dressing up unless my wife digs it.

It's only been a month, things should start up where you left off.

Just remember, if you are young, you probably won't be able to hide the changes for long.

And your wife probably isn't going to "dig it"

Yes that is common. Essentially your breasts were starting to develop.

Regarding not dressing up and remaining private. I don't know if you will have a choice. When I was three months on HRT with no surgeries I looked like this.

Great photo... very affirming for sure.
Indeed, no easy way to hide those changes.   I had the same experience at my 3 month point in my HRT regimen... after that there were more frequent and more significant changes that kept coming and finally at about 1 1/2 years of HRT I was able to go full-time with 100% passiblility... but of course every body responds to HRT in it own way and in it's own time.
Thank you for sharing.

@EmilyEml

Well, like all of us that are transitoning or have transitioned you will soon have to make a very important decision...  usually HRT is not a half-way measure...  you usually can not have it both ways.   Once you start your HRT again changes will happen and as time goes on the changes will happen more frequently and more significantly to the point that there will be no hiding them.

As as @KarynMcD stated in her comment:  "And your wife probably isn't going to "dig it"
Further to that point, if you read many of the threads and comments from married transitioners here on the forums, getting your spouse or partner "on board" with your transition plans can be a difficult experience for both... but there are success stories on here.

So, in my opinion, you have a serious decision to make.  Be sure to spend some time reading around the forums threads to see what others may have to say about your similar situation.

Best wishes to you.

Oh yeah and around the same time dressed up to go out, [linked died not sure why, I'll figure it out when I get home but my point remains, be careful with HRT if full time is not the goal]

Just foundation, no surgeries, 3 months of HRT.

Anyways I post these to warn Emily that there is the possibility of in roughly a dozen weeks not being able to pass as male.

I think that you should talk to your kids and you wife in that order on the same day and explain to them. Even if the worst should happen, the truth is owed to them if you are going to proceed with HRT.

@EmilyEml
As you  found out  the 3 or 4 week point of your exciting HRT journey you most certainly did  begin to feel and see some things happening in a much more noticeable way.

As you noted you first experienced some changes particularly in your nipples and breasts...  soreness, lumps (breast buds) forming under the nipples (and in my case at the same time frame my nipples were very erect and sensitive most of the time) ....  then at 3 months into HRT most transitioners will maybe start seeing things happening more significantly and at a quicker rate including possibly more changes and growth in your breasts and nipples, reduced body hair growth, your own body and urine smell, changes in erections becoming less intense, libido, etc.

The transition journey is indeed exciting.  If you have done any reading yet of some of the other postings and threads here on the Forums it has been stated over and over that HRT will work uniquely in your own unique body. What you read about other transitioning members experiences with HRT most likely will not be identical to your own experiences.

The adage that we use here regarding HRT and how it may work for various individuals  is "YMMV"  meaning that Your Mileage May Vary.
Some will experience more significant changes more quickly and then some will experience less significant changes more slowly....   it is all up to your genes and how your body reacts to the HRT.

PATIENCE is required.... usually not much happens very quickly with HRT... but changes will happen.

Without a doubt this can be very "EXCITING and SCARY all at the same time."   One needs to hang on for an amazing ride.  Some of my best and most appreciated and dramatic body changes happened to me at about the 5 or 6 month point and through the start of year #2 of my HRT journey.
Even though I was able to very successfully pass before I went full-time... when I did go full-time at the 1 1/2 year mark I had been passing 100% of the time.  Of course that is just my own personal experience, I suppose I can thank my unique body makeup and my genes for all that.

You will not see dramatic changes on a daily or weekly basis.  I found that by taking my photo once a month that when compared with previous monthly photos, the changes were quite noticeable and very motivating.

Thank you for sharing the start of your story with all of us.
Wishing you well, and if you decide to proceed we will be eagerly following your postings and transition progress as you continue toward your goal.

Hi Emily,
I'm 49 years old, husband, father to 2 boys 8 & 10 years old. In 2015-2016 on HRT for 12 months - wife didnt dig HRT or my dressing. 2017 off HRT. 1st January 2018 back on HRT.

HRT did pick up where I left off. I have B-cup breasts that sometimes draw comment. I used HRT to relieve the mental burden of my gender misalignment- I used HRT to treat symptoms of GD re-actively instead of pro-actively. I have worked hard over the years to build equity, family & career. I am very thankful for everything I have in life. I could lose the lot.

That said I find it difficult these days to live without HRT & part time female expression. I don't want to lose the lot - my family is my number one priority & I dont want to return to the pressure cooker before HRT.

I may have to transition in the end - I have a mildly androgynous appearance + the inner woman pushes me at times.

Life is good right now. My transition is essentially private. My wife & I have an agreement on how much feminine expression I put out there. I really can't see into the crystal ball at the moment - but enjoying every day as it is.

I would love to hear how you go,

                              kindest regards, Kirsten.

Alaskan Danielle, thanks for your information and story, this is very helpful to me!

Kirsteneklund7, When did you tell your wife, how did you tell her?  Also how are things now?

Hi again Emily,
I told my wife as soon as I visited a psychiatrist & a psychologist& began HRT. I invited her to the sessions and she came. She knew what was going on from the start but would prefer if I was purely masculine.

My wife would have prefered my physical & emotional expression had not taken on a feminine edge.

Unfortunately my masculine self was taking to much willpower & energy to project. Now I just let my feminine & masculine selves express naturally & organically.

Our romance is more of a housemate arrangement now.

I think allowing your girl self to exist generally creates a more platonic dynamic within the marriage.

Hope this sheds some light,  Kirsten.

First, thank you everyone for your information that has really helped a lot.  I just wanted to post an update.

At about 3 weeks after stopping, my dysphoria hit me VERY hard again, worse than ever before.  I know that I have to do this again, and I have to do it quickly.  Something is wrong with me for sure.  Why can't I just be happy with who I am?  (Rhetorical question there.)

So I went to my endo last Friday, and she put me back on E.  I started Yesterday, and feel better knowing that changes are coming.  I also feel a bit more calm.

Based on how my breasts have already started, (yes, i know ymmv) what do you think I will start to notice and when?  Do you expect it will take several weeks again, or a month?  Or do you think it will start resuming during the first week?

I will keep you updated here on my progress, but was hoping to also hear from you your guess.

It is really hard to say when and how estrogen does something to your body.  I am almost 4 weeks on it, and have no sign that it does anything to me (except slightly swollen feet when I sit longer).  However, I had already natural breasts before I started with E.  But they did not change in size either on E.

Nothing is likely to happen until your estrogen levels get reestabished. That will take time and then from there the changes will start. My guess is a month or two.
