Last Monday was the big day. Breast augmentation surgery was scheduled for 7:00AM, needed to be to the hotel by 5:30AM.  The surgeon's office and the hospital are in a town a little over an hour north so my partner and I got a hotel for the weekend and through the day after surgery (so we could avoid the 2.5 hour round trip for my 1-day follow-up after surgery).

Saturday night we went out and partied a little bit.  Went bar hopping with some friends of ours to celebrate my upcoming procedure. Sunday was all about rest, relaxation and getting fully re-hydrated. Had Brunch in the morning, did some last minute shopping for recovery clothes, early dinner and early to bed for surgery the next day.

Now what you really care about. Monday we headed into the hospital, through a bit of a snow storm that hit overnight. Checked in at the Surgical Procedures desk, 15 minutes later I was on a bed in a prep room. My nerves were off the charts, multiple nurses, the anesthesiologist, and my surgeon stopped in over the course of the next 90 minutes. Finally I got wheeled off to the OR.  Last thing I remember was being transferred over from the bed to the operating table.  Next thing I knew I was waking up, some pain high on my pectorial area and had a nurse asking if I was ready for more pain meds?  I remember feeling scared and crying a couple times during recovery, not sure why.  Finally back in the prep room and my surgeon stopped in.  Told me everything went well and gave me a summary of the procedure.

Ultimately I ended up with 325cc round silicone gel implants, placed sub-glandularly. Obviously, they're riding high at the moment so it's hard to know what size I'll be, but it looks like I'll likely be a D cup.  I'm very happy with the size, they actually look really proportional right now which was a concern of mine going in. I was worried the 325-350 size we decided on might be too small, but seeing them now I think I and the surgeon made the right decision.

The first week of recovery has been pretty good.  We stayed in the hotel the first night and my initial follow-up the next day was all positive.  Pain killers did their job quite well even for the 70 minute ride home.  I ended only needing the pain meds through about mid-day on Wednesday.  Tried sleeping both in the recliner and in bed with a wedge, neither was great, but the bed won out.  I hate sleeping on my back.  I think the hardest part of recovery has been the boredom and lack of activity.  Being confined to the house, not being able to do stuff for myself, etc. has been driving me nuts. I'm really missing my daily workouts but I have to wait until I hit the 1 month mark to get back to the gym. Ugh.

Yesterday I had my 1 week follow-up, all positive from the surgeon.  Implants are starting to drop, well positioned and no signs of complications of any type so far. I'm back to sleeping normal, allowed to drive again now, and had some arm movement restrictions lifted.  Looking forward to seeing where I'll be at one month.  Everything I've read says I can expect the implants to be pretty close to their final position/shape by then (three months for complete settling).

Dear Alyssa:
Thank you for posting your long awaited update regarding your BA.   It was over a month ago that you discussed your thoughts about size of the implant and other concerns that you had.   It appears that you made the correct decision about going with the smaller 325cc implants....   some gals go overboard and get implants that are too big, we have all seen the results, and the end result in not proportional to the rest of the body.  It is usually a wise thing to strongly consider the surgeons recommendation, after all, they want referrals and desire word of mouth advertising from their happy patients.

As you will be, I will be eagerly awaiting your update report on your possible additional followup check ups and then after several more weeks once the implants settle and the swelling goes down, it will be great to read what you have to say about the final outcome.

I trust that you will be pleased with the results of this very big step in your transition.

Hugs and well wishes,
Danielle

Congrats Alyssa! Choosing the right size is definitely a must. In my case I chose way bigger implants than yours because of my height and they look perfect! :)
