Feeling so good today

...for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I spent 30+ hours in a hospital anxiously awaiting the birth of my great-great niece. (Note to self: being induced at a certain time doesn't ensure the kid shows up anytime soon thereafter!) During those many hours of hanging around with very little good sleep I had time to think about a lot of things. Certainly a scary prospect! Once others had gone home, gone to the hotel or were trying to sleep in a chair or comfort my great-niece in her room it seems I came back several times to one thought in particular.

That is:

This new little human who was about to show up would only know me as her UNCLE

Needless to say this thought brought a big smile to my face and an overwhelming sense of joy coupled with a feeling that it is so right to be her uncle.

Secondly, my great niece and her husband, both independently, after the birth of their daughter, asked how I felt being a great-great Uncle! (Baby D is my first great-great niece/nephew) Don't know if they discussed it ahead of time, really don't care but I doubt it. They were very preoccupied the previous day and a half.

I'm taking this as reinforcement that this journey I'm on is the right one and that my family is amazing.
