i have been on hormones for 4 months . i am detransitioning and just stopped taking hormones. my nipples have grown in size and the top is wider. you can see them through my shirts and i am scared that they will never go back to normal. i heard that since i wasn't on hormones for a long time, as well as a small dosage, that they will slowly go back to normal or at least shrink a little. does anyone know? i am so nervous they will never go back to normal.

Dear Shay

Welcome to Susan's.

I hope you enjoy your time here.

Deciding to detransition is never an easy one. Your breast growth will reduce and my understanding is that you may well return to your previous state however I would suggest consulting with your Dr/prescriber. I am sure someone a little more knowledgeable will be along to give their opinion.

So you are able to get the very best from being here there are a couple of links we give to all our new members

Regards

Liz

From what I understand the breast growth might reduce a little but it won't go completely away. Changes to the nipples I think are permanent. I honestly don't know what would happen if they get to the goofy stage and hormones are stopped, maybe the puffiness would recede but I don't know if they would ever shrink again.

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

My understanding is also that the breasts are the one thing irreversible. Being on hormones for such a short time maybe you'll be fortunate though.

Four months is outside the window of fully reversible breast growth. It isn't seriously far but it's possible that what breast growth and nipple development that is there is permanent. In addition the testicular volume may not come back if they shrunk at all. Also the fertility of the sperm could be reduced permanently.

On the bright side having gone off hormones at this point the effects listed should hopefully be minimal but I wouldn't expect these changes to reverse.

Shay,

For those of us who need to be stealth when out in public, we use binders under out loose shirts to hide our growth. Another member pointed me to this site, which makes great binders.

Here's a guide about what's reversible and what's not:

https://www.rainbowhealthontario.ca/TransHealthGuide/pdf/fem-ht-expectedeffectsguide.pdf

The way I read that, breast growth is not reversible.
I'm a 65 year old male who has been thinking about SRS for many years.  I also was a  full cross dresser for a few years.  I wear a bra, pantyhose and nail polish daily because it just feels right.

Started HRT April 17, 2019.

With only four months of Estrogen, you should only have minimal breast growth. When you stop estrogens your chest will begin to look like a post menopausal woman of the same breast size.

Will your breasts return to pre-estrogen appearance? Will your testosterone levels return to normal? Only time will tell. Some people have almost complete reversal, but most will have some small reminder of their estrogen changes.

A lot of men aren't exactly "normal" for one reason or another.  Attention deficit disorder meds, steroids, and aging can cause it.  I've seen statistics like 1/3 to 1/4 of older men have enlarged breasts.

Thanks for clarifying Natalie I am never sure of the cut off before things become permanent and I had 3 months in my head but could not remember for certain...From what I remember the nipples remain the same but again I am no expert on that.

Shay1234,

While I am unsure as to your reasons to de-transition, I hope everything goes well for you.

Peace

At 5 I forgot who I am. Fortunately, who I am protected me all these years until I remembered. Whatever else happens, I will live the rest of my life whole.
