Bicalutamide or Dutasteride, which is best

Hello all, been awhile for me on here. Just was hoping for some insight on which would be better, Bica or Dutasteride. Hoping for safest and most effective

Bicalutamide is an androgen receptor blocker. This blocks the largest percentage of T/DHT type receptors in the body. Something like 2-3% have increased liver enzyme levels while taking it. If you take it your doctor should monitor you.

Duteraside is an alpha5-reductase inhibitor. This is similar to Finasteride but blocks 3 types of a5-reductase actions. These stop Testtosterone from being converted into DHT. Finasteride works on prostate and scalp tissues among others while duteraside works in all tissues. Some people have depression issues with these meds as a5-reductase also is part of making certain neuro-regulating hormones.

I took Finasteride and Spironolactone before my orchi was done.

Thanks for the great info. I was on spirit for about 10 months and I felt ok but was seriously concerned with the whole potassium thing seeing as how I like to eat healthy and all the good stuff is loaded with potassium. Stopped for about 6 months and now ready to resume. Really looking for the best and safest alternative

No matter what your research reveals, it is you and your doctor that will make the best decisions based on your blood test results and your general health... and specifically for your unique body.

Medications like this can cause issues with the liver and kidneys so all of those factors need to be addressed...

I took Finasteride and Spironolactone before my orchi was done.

I am also on both.  Finasteride seems not to bother me, I am on it for many years already.  Sprio seems to hit me mentally.  I am glad to get off of it by the end of the week!  In fact, i plan to sack it already tomorrow!

         I vote Bicalutamide took it for 'bout 9 years with no adverse, plus some permanent positive effects like inhibited body hair growth! At such low doses, compared to intended cancer patient use, feel like stated "risks" and cost, due to new generics, are nominal at best!

Blocks ALL, both T & DHT best . . . and in pushing 63 (see 'avatar') 'ave full, almost breast length head hair to prove it!!

I would try bicalutimide if your doctor will prescribe it. Spiro blocks androgen receptors as a side effect to it's mineral corticoid receptor action. I used to have to carry salt packets with me when working when I was on Spiro. Sodium levels will control free potassium levels. So when you sweat and urinate you loose sodium and the free potassium can go to toxic levels. Made me feel woozy, weak, and just sick.

My Endo had never prescribed bicalutimide so he would not switch me to it

That is it!  My last blood test should potassium to be on the high side!  I feel more lethargic and listless from spiro, but I could also describe it as woozy and weak!

I am so glad that I will be off of the stuff for ever!
