Hi my name is Sophia, I am 20 years old and I am a student at college and a writer. My dreams are to write and produce my own movies and TV shows and with them make people happy and uplift. I am writing a movie, a love story, the goal is a romantic comedy.
It's a love story about a normal couple. Two men falling in love and one of the men is intersex. I wanted to create an intersex character that isn't a spectacle, whose life isn't only focused on what's in his pants. He's a man who is just happy. He has self-love and self-acceptance. He owns his character, his sexuality, and his dreams. He works hard in his career and his only "flaw" (cause every character needs one) is that he is very cautious about emotional intimacy.

The thing is though, I'm not part of the Intersex community. A part of me wants to make this movie because I love love, and I want to showcase love in every form because it's something I think the world needs. I want people to be educated about what it means to be Intersex, the issues the community deals with, that there is a community that exists and matters just as much as anyone else. But another part of me doesn't think I can make this movie because it's not my place. Does the community even want representation in a movie? I don't know. So tell me.

If you saw a movie about a couple with an intersex partner, what would you hope to see?
-What would you want people to know? To take from it?
-Do you even want representation in a movie? Does it matter to you?
-Would you feel happy seeing a positive representation of an Intersex character without it being fetishized or whitewashed?

The thing is though, I'm not part of the Intersex community.
Do you means intersex or transgender?  Intersex is a birth condition, intersex people can be anything, straight , gay, trans or you name it!

Transgender are people who are born with, let's say a female brain in a male body, or a male brain in a female body.
Transgender and intersex are two different pairs of shoes.

I happen to be a person born with an intersex syndrome, and I was assigned to be a male at birth.  I am now changing my gender into female.  That means, i am transgender!

I do not know if there is an intersex community, at least not where I live and used to live.

Again what do you mean, intersex or transgender?

@Dietlind, thank you so much for the question yes I know the difference between Intersex and Transgender, and no my character Stevie isn't transgender. When I say, intersex, I mean specifically that he is a person whose sex characteristics, don't fit the "typical" male or female body. It's just how his chromosomes, hormones, and genitals(internal/external) were developed. As he grew up he naturally identified as male on his own even if his anatomy didn't quite fit the description of a "standard" male. He's an individual who was lucky enough to grow up in a family that didn't pressure or force him into any surgeries or hormone treatments or anything, he was allowed to handle his body and his identity in his own way. He's an adult gay intersex man that has complete security and love in himself, loves banana bread, and does not miss out on not having balls.

The message of the movie is to emphasize the fact that being born is like going to a casino in Vegas and pulling the lever of a slot machine. There are millions of combinations our DNA can form; some are born tall, some are born blonde in a family of brunettes, some people are born in bodies they don't feel accurately represent themselves, and some are born with a little of both. But what matters most is to not only love yourself but teach others how to love you too.

LOL yes I can guarantee there are no character deaths, there is no threat of being disowned by anyone, no one has a passionate love affair and then decides they have to go back home and marry the girl their parents want and try to be straight. None of that in my movie!

i am such a person, I did not naturally identify as a male, most intersex people don't, I was told I was a man, so I lived as one.
I am not gay though, always was hetero, and now I am considered to be a lesbian.
And i don't like banana bread! Balls are overrated anyway!

I'm willing to make a lot of adjustments to this movie to make sure that every character and issue is treated with love, respect, and personality but unfortunately, I cannot change him loving banana bread. That's just set in stone boo. He's even the person who enjoys pineapple on pizza.

Welcome to Susan's Place. Possibly you can take a lesson from some of our members. Many of our intersex members come here with a strange set of symptoms that the doctors seem to have difficulty diagnosing (primarily because this is something not taught in detail in medical school. Your character might fall in love, play the medical game with the doctors getting a diagnosis and then the couple has to redefine the relationship. With our transgender members, we find about half of the marriages survive the transition and many of the same issue could exist if somebody were to discover they were intersex.

If you want to see just how far out this could go, google androgen insensitivity. I can think of a really good storyline you could weave with that one.
