Donut cushions

Can anyone recommend a good type,  shape or brand that are good for GRS recovery?

Just hauled mine out...still inflated...Surgipack distributed my Medtronic...worked a treat

I never used one.

During recovery, I stayed in bed or sat in a soft chair slouched backwards.

After a few weeks, I was sitting normal. I do not attribute this to an iron butt. We just heal at different rates.

I found that a neck pillow for travel worked best.  The round donut put too much pressure on things toward the front but the neck pillow didn't since it's a U shape.

That makes a ton of sense...I'll have to remember that tip when I have my surgery.

For having more sitting comfort after my orchi, I bought a pillow that Is a little like a neck pillow, but more solid and has a full area to sit on for the butt, and on each leg support in the front.  I found it at Costco.
It allows my entire "neither" area to float free in the air.

Dr. Ley (Dr. Meltzer's clinic) gives out the travel neck cushions as part of their surgery kit. I used mine a bit but found most any pillow difficult or inconvenient to carry and stay balanced upon so did not use it all that much. For the most part I would find a position sitting with one leg under me was as comfortable or at least bearable.

I borrowed one from a friend who went overseas.  It was very long in the legs.  That helped distribute the weight more.

I used it mostly for driving

I had the inflated donut during my last two weeks in the recovery apartment of my surgeon.   I then had to fly home sitting for 20 hours and bought a neck pillow at the airport.   For me it was so much more comfortable that I sat on it at home for the next three months. After three months I can finally sit without it!

They make a cushion for toilet seats that is open in the front. (U-Shaped) They're bigger than the Neck Cushions mentioned here and they worked extremely well for me.  They're white and 4 inches thick before they compress.  They look just like a toilet seat so I put them inside a zippered cloth bag. While I had zero complications from the surgery, my nerves healed very slowly; which I attributed to age and some ongoing peripheral nephropathy issues.  They were a godsend for me. I got one on Amazon and another at Walgreens. They were virtually the same.
