This is a vent, but I also have a question.  Three weeks ago we made an appointment with a local doctor to discuss beginning HRT with my 16 yo DD.  This practice was referred to us, so we weren't expecting problems.  Today they informed us that they don't prescribe hormones for minors.  Grrrrrrr!  The next closest place, Alder(45 minutes away), in Harrisburg PA has a 4 - 6 month waiting list.  I got us on that.  The Mazzoni Center is about 1 1/2 hours away.  Anyone know what their waiting time is?  My  husband is also pretty reluctant to go to after reading about their scandal.  I am fine with waiting to start estrogen, but I would love it if their were any way to get testosterone blockers, or possibly puberty blockers sooner, so that we don't end up having to undo all the testosterone stuff.

On a happier note, we are clothes shopping for the first time!  Skirts and leggings at the thrift store, and we will start the prop dress hunt.  She wants a long dress with lots of layers.  Wish us luck.

I'm not sure if this is a state-by-state issue but in Illinois any GP can prescribe HRT; it's called informed consent.  You just want someone who knows what they're doing.

Consider calling a local endocrinologist as they might be able to help.  You can also look in your area for an transgender support group.  They may have suggestions.

I"m pretty sure it's not a legal thing, unless the law is different for minors.  I will keep asking around.

Puberty blockers for minors, HRT for eighteen plus, that's my understanding.

I have seen some protocols for starting at age 16, but I haven't actually talked to a doctor yet.  We have a call in to the gender and sexuality clinic at CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philly), which is a long drive, but should put us in good  hands in terms of dealing with youth transitioning issues.  Wildwood
