Bad estradiol side effects, starting estriol
So I have tried all the different types of estradiol; sublingual, injection, patches....I have tried low doses and high doses..No matter what I do, i get very bad side effects. My doctor and I have decided to try estriol cream and see how that goes. I just want answers that can guide me to the right dose of estriol. my doctor has never prescribed any of his trans patients estriol, so he was asking me what dose my friend was prescribed and what brand because he looked up estriol and only saw a combination of estriol.estradiol, estrone regime..he couldn't find a product that only included estriol, so that's why i'm here. i want to hear from fellow trans women that have or are on estriol what the starting dose was an what was the name of the company or brand that provided the estriol. just like when you get a prescription of patches when you look at the patches packaging what company or brand it's from, i want to know what brand or company your estriol came from. Unfortunately I can't get in touch with my ''friend'' because of reasons idk. I just turned 31 and started when i was 24. The thing is that this was not the case when i first started. It was at the 2.5 year mark when this started to happen. I guess it can take a while for the bad side effects to kick in. Anyways, I have a friend that was going through the same thing as me and she told me that her doctor prescribed her an Estriol cream. I think the dose was 6mg. Now, i know that most transwomen say that this is the weakest estrogen and that only estradiol should be taken, but obviously i can't take it and would rather take something weak than nothing at all. I at least want to try it. My doctor said he would prescribe it but he doesn't know what dose to prescribe. So if anyone reading this is on estriol, and it has worked for you can you please tell me what dose did you start off on and what brand of estriol cream are you using? For example, there is a brand called Evalon cream estriol sold on inhouse pharmac, but if my doctor is willing to prescribe it, i dont need to get it off and online pharmacy. Can someone help me or direct me with the dose? If Estriol also makes me sick, i'll try a phytoestrogen. That would be my only option

Sorry to hear you've had bad side effects. I know that feeling, I can't actually take synthetic estrogen at all, any of them, becuase my body reacts veeery poorly to it.

I do hope that you find a dosage and a form that works for you though. I'm genuinely too scared to keep trying but because I freaking hate being female anyway it's not that much of a loss. but for you, getting a dosage of the right stuff is far more important.

Creams tend to be a lot less extreme than pill or injections, I know that from experience. They're more a mild constant dose.

Do you mind me asking what sort of side effects you're getting? Maybe a personal question but there may be solutions to minimise those without straight up having to stop the estrodiol.

Have you tried a bio-identical estrogen. I am on implants and it works wonders.

Excuse me for living

I have no experience with that form and cannot answer that, Im taking estradiol .
What are the bad side effects you have been experiencing? also have you been having your hormone levels checked to make sure you are in a safe range?

Estriol is a metabolite of Estrone.
It is a very weak estrogen.
It is mostly used to combat vaginal dryness in cis women but I have never heard of it being prescribed to a transgender woman.

If you can't have Estradiol at all, you may want to discuss Premarin with your doctor? Not ideal but it would allow you to stay on some form of HRT.

If HRT ends up being out of the question eventually and all your options are exhausted, you may want to look into a surgical transition.

I know that some trans girls have breast implants and FFS without being on HRT.
Maybe that is an option for you too?

I hope things get better for you soon.

Hi, Selene

According to the papers I've seen the potency of estriol is between .1 and .025 that of estradiol. Thus, according to simple math, to be equivalent the doses of estriol administered should be between ten and forty times those of estradiol.

However, where breast development in specific is concerned I've also seen claims that estriol is only 1/100 as effective as estradiol...

In any case, any endocrinologist should have better access to a more comprehensive set of references than I. I'm thus a bit curious why your doctor is unable to do the research himself.
