Well, surprise of surprises

As I have been gathering info to ensure that I can get my neck surgery done on the 17th, GRS Montreal called. They needed a bit more info but, by my extrapolation of the discussion, my surgery should get scheduled sometime mid next year.

Well, surprise surprise

** Editing to add how the topic came up:
She was going through my (short) med list to see what I had to stop for surgery. Obviously she saw the Estradiol and made a comment about what it was for. That opened the door for me to state, "That leads up to a question that I have"

At the hospital earlier today for final per-op tests (not that one, for my neck) and as we were winding down I asked the RN about any issues with transgender people. She was a bit blank looking and I continued on to say that I'm transgender and I don't want anyone treating me to be surprised and/or offended.

She looked shocked. She had no idea (YAY!!!). She also said that she didn't know anyone that would have a problem.  I explained that's it's best if anyone that would participate in my care were aware. She then asked about informing her supervisor. I said, of course, they're best suited to know who would end up interacting with me

She was quite adament in her belief that if anyone had a problem they shouldn't be in the medical field.

YAY! again

When it comes to medical care, honesty is the best policy.

I agree with the nurse that there is no place for bigotry in the healthcare profession.

@Lori Dee  I liked the happy surprise that she didn't realize I was trans.

Today's the day. We leave in 15 minutes for the hospital. I really hope this eliminates most of my neck pain.

Hi Faith!

Merry Christmas to you!

Chrissy
Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

@ChrissyRyan  TY. Merry Christmas to you as well and everyone else here.

For me, I am recovering, slowly. AtHome nurse says I'm doing better than she expected. I have to support my neck a lot, fluffy pillows to hold my head in place along with the collar. Boredom crops up quickly.

New powered reliner couch to help. And, importantly, a bass uke to dabble with once I can move a little bit more

Faith,

Do take care, relax and restore, and I hope you get to play your uke soon.
I did not know that there were different ukes, e.g., bass uke.  Interesting, that is.
