Well, surprise surprise
** Editing to add how the topic came up:
She was going through my (short) med list to see what I had to stop for surgery. Obviously she saw the Estradiol and made a comment about what it was for. That opened the door for me to state, "That leads up to a question that I have"
At the hospital earlier today for final per-op tests (not that one, for my neck) and as we were winding down I asked the RN about any issues with transgender people. She was a bit blank looking and I continued on to say that I'm transgender and I don't want anyone treating me to be surprised and/or offended.
She looked shocked. She had no idea (YAY!!!). She also said that she didn't know anyone that would have a problem. I explained that's it's best if anyone that would participate in my care were aware. She then asked about informing her supervisor. I said, of course, they're best suited to know who would end up interacting with me
She was quite adament in her belief that if anyone had a problem they shouldn't be in the medical field.
YAY! again
