it was just plug and play, works fine. Mum gave me a bag of cherry tomatoes from her green house, she has loads and they will be going off before she eats them . Talking of tomatoes I picked a carrier bag full from Ds, he said help yourself as they are not ripening. Green tomato chutney then, going to need some more jars.

A lot is just ramblings/ everyday stuff and car building dear!! Dull cloudy and damp this morning, we are stuck in a high pressure that is trapping a layer of cloud. 15C today at best. More metal fab and welding in a bit.

Had to get mum to pick me up from the workshop so I could use the Countryman as the Yeti is not safely drivable. Fitted the first bit of floor in the Herferod, that cheered me up!

Skoda Yeti, its a small SUV based on a VW Golf floor pan. My one is a top of the range Elegance model, heated leather seats, air con, cd changer and the 2.0L TDI 170HP engine with 6 speed gearbox. Its been totaly reliable till now when the EGR valve played up and I got it mapped out, since then the DPF has been blocking up (diesel particulate filter) . It must have heard me say to someone that when I get the Herferod on the road I will sell it and just run 2 hot rods!!!! Still drives sweet, its just this emission stuff playing up at 150,000 miles.

I love seeing the old roadsters cruising around town. They aren't going anywhere in particular, just out for a drive to lube up the seals.

Dear Davina:
I gave up on "hot rods" and flashy vehicles as I have become older
and perhaps wiser...

....most are very impractical in long winter and bitter cold
climates along with un-plowed snow covered roads and parking lots.

My go-to vehicle is my 4 wheel drive full size pickup truck,
high lift/high clearance, with select-able front and rear locking differentials. 
Winter tires (with the "Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake Symbol," 17/32nds extra deep treads, and softer rubber to
compensate for bitter below zero temperatures.  They are quite expensive
but they are the correct tires for my vehicles.

If one gets stuck in snow with that vehicle and tires you are really stuck good.

Apart from the firm ride the Austin is a good driver, decent heater as well. Will be glad when I get the Yeti back on the road though as its a 4 wheel drive, not that the wide road treads help in snow.

See I would love to be able to do stuff like that. I used to watch "Scrapheap Challenge". With Kryten, lol (Bob Llewellyn). It always amazed me how people could just make stuff out of nothing. Here's a big pile of scrap... BOOM! Hovercraft! That is a literal artform. A very messy, greasy artform, but an artform nonetheless. People who can make these amazing looking cars out of what looks like literal junk are artisans. Keep on welding! Being able to make something with your hands is incredible to me. They are things which will last long after we are gone. 🙂
