1  Is your urge to crossdress purely sexual? Mostly. I also enjoy the artistic aspect; as an artist I appreciate that my body is a canvas and I like all the fun things women can wear. In a way, I see it as performance art. I would certainly never presume to be a woman, or even think like a woman.

2  Do you dress as a woman for non-sexual reasons sometimes? Almost never.

3  Do you feel a sense of escape when you are dressed as a woman? Yes. I am typically a very reserved and shy person, although I enjoy the company of people and often comfortably deliver presentations and conduct museum tours. Still, it is a big deal for me to venture into public en femme as I am WAY outside my comfort zone when doing so. While en femme in public I feel anxious and paranoid, but this is tempered by the pleasure of pretending to be a woman.

4  Around the time of your birth did your parents argue a lot? No.

5  Around the time of your birth did either parent seek psychological dominance in their relationship? No.

6  Would you say your parents could be or could have been more understanding / empathetic towards each other? They became more indifferent to each other. My father could have been more empathetic, but they both fell out of love.

7  Did your parents split up? Yes, when I was in my early 20s.

I have been a BSN prepared RN for 23 years now. . I look back and this survey is still up with no response from Janinea (original poster) Since Jan 12, 2008.  I had asked about any sort of tabulation of the results and none was forthcoming.  BUT.  I think it may raise a ethical question that should be considered. 

I understand most of us do not mind sharing with others our stories and tribulations with crossdressing.  That may negate the ethical issue?

Two things of import. .

1. Apparently "Janinea" is no longer a registered user here. (I may be wrong, but when you mouse over her name, there is no link to view profile? or do you have the option of not making your profile available?)

2. Something she said, got me thinking. .

". . .There are different categories of cross dressing which is why these results will appear superficially to be mixed and why previous surveys have been confused. The causes of sexual and not sexual cross dressing are completely different. The family may have different requirements to remain productive and healthy, it may be arguement moderation, maternal support and so forth.

Interesting comment.  Certainly one cannot preclude why a person crossdresses, however, it is my understanding and certainly in my case, I started crossdressing for sexual stimulation reasons initially, but as we age, the reason typically changes.  Yet she intimates that the "Causes" of sexual and non sexual crossdressing are completely different.    Does that strike anyone else as strange?

BUT HERE IS MY OBJECTION AT THIS POINT . .

The initial posting gave this reason:

"I am studying whether Transvestitism / Crossdressing is genetic in origin. This study is focused on M to F behaviour.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU FILL OUT THIS SURVEY SO THAT THE REASONS BEHIND THE BEHAVIOUR ARE BETTER UNDERSTOOD[/b].

Not just understood by you and other TG/TV etc but by society so that it may be more accepted. I need at least a hundred replies to form convincing statistical models. I will let you know the results as soon as I get them. You may lean some things from the survey but I cannot say much more without causing bias. "

Ethically, such a survey should not be conducted without a full and clear disclosure of the reason, and if academic in nature, the sponsor and the school where they may be contacted.  But the statement "I cannot say much more without causing bias"  borders on unethical.   
-Worse, there is NO information given regarding the results. or publication of said results.  Also unethical.  A quick search of pubmed for 2008 and 2009 does not return much that seems to match this survey.

So, As I said, i understand most people here do not mind sharing their stories, but this survey seems to have more questions than answers.  The questioner has disappeared, the questioner implies a study, but gives no verifiable info. . I have to wonder if the readership were tricked for who knows what reason.  Whatever the reason, I think the poster of the survey was at the least disingenuous about his/her motive/

***Wondering IF maybe such ostensibly research surveys should not be vetted by a moderator before being allowed to post.  Some of the material is sensitive and has the potential to be misused.

I really can't understand what this questionnaire hoped to accomplish, but here goes...

No.

2  Do you dress as a woman for non-sexual reasons sometimes?
No.
(Since in this instance "Sometimes" implies occasions of crossdressing for reasons that are non-sexual in nature to be the exception, a "Yes" would mean cross-dressing mostly for sexual reasons.)

3  Do you feel a sense of escape when you are dressed as a woman?
No.
(Although to be honest I don't understand the question. Escape from what?)

4  Around the time of your birth did your parents argue alot?
I really can't remember.
(While I do recall some things from before the age of one, they're mostly sensory—the taste of milk, the taste of sugar water, the feeling of a pacifier, sunlight on my face, teething pains  and so on. Anyway, my father was not in the birthing room so I rather doubt it.)

5  Around the time of your birth did either parent seek psychological dominance in their relationship?
Again, I really can't remember—as already mentioned, my earliest memories are mostly sensory.

6  Would you say your parents could be or could have been more understanding / empathetic towards each other?
Yes.

7  Did your parents split up?
Yes.

I'd guess so
(Only if the argument is between other parties. I tend to not even try when I myself am under fire.)
As for the score, perhaps seven or eight, assuming that a moderator scoring zero only exacerbates things and one scoring ten defuses and resolves each situation.

I think the original poster stated a bogus reason for posting the message.  They are not even a member here, nor can I find any record of any research done that fits the stated reason from that time. . .

I believe that the fact that the poster is no longer apparently compiling the data makes this just an interesting post to respond to just for reading purposes. Just to see the different views and experiences of the members. That being the case it still has value, and possibly more value that it did when it was original posted!
