Golden Earring - Twilight Zone

A bit of trivia for you. The title of the song, "Twilight Zone" had nothing to do with Rod Serling's TV show by the same name, nor the movie that followed.

The song is based on a much older story about a hitman who botches a job, is disavowed by his employers, and realizes only too late that he has been double-crossed. That story is from the original novel by Robert Ludlum, "The Bourne Identity".

Here is a blast from the past. (1971) Yeah, my freshman year in high school!

For context, "low spark" refers to "a strong undercurrent at street level". The Woodstock Festival was an example.

In this case, "Low spark of high-heeled boys" referred to rebels on the street corner who wore leather jackets and cowboy boots.

I spent the summer of '72 with some friends in Roanoke Virginia. Great memories hiking in the mountains around there! That album was on constantly. I always think back on that trip when I hear that song!
