That song is literally me.. the song. And I kind of hate it. I am way too cold and distant to people because I have more defensive walls than fort knox. I wish you were right, Lilis. God... I really wish you were right. The last person I was like that with.. was the only time I ever loved enough to want to marry. She died in a car crash. I held her in my arms. I wasn't in the car, but she held on long enough so I could see the light leave her eyes.

Her name was Lauren. That's when I changed my name. To stupidly let her live on. To keep her alive.

That sounds really dumb, and creepy... and I'm sorry. She is not dead while I am alive. That's the best I can give.

It's okay, Lilis. It was a long, long time ago.. I haven't really wanted that ever since but I am okay. I just like seeing people and making them feel good. There's probably something very deeply wrong with me to not want to, you know... stuff. But I don't think in those terms. And... uh I think she would be happy I was trying to make the world a good place in her name. Or it's just a giant excuse and someone should call the cops hahaha. I haven't quite decided. All I knonw is that I am very guarded with people. And I am sorry for that. But stuff happens. The only way to live is to decide how to live with life. If you can't then... you're going to be in kind of a bad place.

But I wholeheartedly agree with Lilis. Sephirah is such a bright burning star who will someday find someone brave enough and strong enough and gentle enough to behold her brightness without being blinded. You are both such amazing women.

She was. Sometimes, some people come along who have such a special gift to reach out to people. Be that through song, literature, art, or simple human encouragement (not mentioning any names ). All gifts to the world.

Thank you for those, Ash. I hadn't heard them before, but they're going on my playlist. The only other song I'd heard from Sinead was probably one of her more famous ones, at least in the UK. And still breathtaking.

As you know, I'm hearing impaired (though I did catch Alanis singing: thank you for seeing me, and, well, thank you, too). I love Sinead and once upon a time understood her lyrics. Even so, I felt what she was singing and will see if I can find a close-captioned version on YouTube (that place is like my favorite general store just west of Missoula: they have everything). I remember when I learned of Ms. O'Connor's passing. Don McLean was wrong: that was the night the music died.
