I am not sure where to post this so please, mods, move it to where it needs to be, if you think it's even worth talking about... but this whole Rowling Vs Tennant trans thing has been big on my radar lately. This is the guy who's been big into Pride, and after wearing a T-shirt promoting such, has led to thousands of pounds worth of sales for people wanting to get on board with it.

Yet everyone's favourite ginger Grinch has had something to say about it, apparently... This is just mad

I can't disagree with this whole "whinging" angle. It's people feeling entitled. Don't even get me started on Kemi Bad-enough. She is literally Suella Braverman with dreadlocks. It's very scummy of the Tory party to use ethnic minorities as poster children for their right wing agendas.

As much as I love DT.. It is not middle class, priveledged white males whom we need to stand up and support us. That sounds disengenious, I know.. all support is good. and in part I cannot disagree. However, someone who is just an ally.. really cannot speak on our behalf.. because whilst they may be saying what we wish people to think, they have nothing more than their sense of morality to guide them. This is then what leads to a car crash of a statement where he calls for the only black, female minister in parliament to 'shut up and go away" (sic)..

This then allows a platform for the hater's to espouse their dis-knowledge and troll out the old tropes of "rapists, pedo's  and murderers".. By attacking these people, we allow them a platform to spread more of their hate and disinformation.

As a community, we should treat all disenters like you would small children. They don't know better. They think they do and they scream and shout.. but point to that woman who is saving lives in a childrens's hospital.. oh btw she is trans, that doesn't define her, it is just part of her story - but see the dedication, the lives saved... For every made-up rapist in a bathroom story the hate people espouse, we should be showcasing the normal and the remarkable people who exist, who just happen to be on the gender spectrum. It is not as satisfying as shouting hate back, it is not as headline grabbing - but this is a war of attrition and we are already making huge strides into the general public's consciousness.

Dissenters and  mis-informationists are finding their voices eroded. There is less of a platform in the mainstream now than there was.. I know, they still have too much of a sway and their words do make headlines, but more often now they are being reported as the 'look at this, this is freaking outlandish' as opposed to 'look at this, this is fact'..   The more we educate and celebrate the people who find themselves dealing with their gender incongruencies the less traction scare-mongering will have and the haters will move to the background and remain on the fringes. Much like the anti-gay lobbies and racism have done. I don't think they will ever go, as humanity seems to have a pernicious streak to retain a small percentage of individuals whom have outcast views - but their voices stop being heralded as news and more for concern to the owners mental health.

By deciding not to be involved in the screaming matches with people who have agenda's.. better we stand proud and show the world that we are so much better than that.

To be fair, Sarah, if she subscribes to the Suella Braverman, Ultra right wing, All immigrants are trash.. let's ship everyone off to Rwanda because we have an 80K a year expense account... And sort of racial, gender, immigrant status of these tories loses all credibility. If the only black, female minister in parliament is a raging right wing hatemonger... then her gender or skin colour shouldn't be a shield to her views on how the world should be. And if you've heard this person speaking the bile she does... there's a reason she has a lot of nicknames based on her surname.

I don't disagree with David, and nor do most of the voters, that she should shut up and go away. She is obnoxious. And she can't hide behind her skin colour to make it okay to come out with the things she does. She's super Tory.

Granted, watching this from across the pond... doesn't David Tennant have skin in the game? He's not just a supporter and advocate... but I believe his child is trans. So, first of all, he has every much of a right to spread love as that crazy lady who is ruining childhoods has to spew hate, but as mentioned.. he has reason to know from what he speaks.

And I also thought his speech was lovely.

It's incredible how "offended" people are when he said he wished she would go away or didn't exist (however he worded it... it was not only pretty gentle, but he also then made sure to comment that he didn't mean it literally)... when THEY really seem to be actively working to make trans people cease to exist, or at least have no right to do so.

But again... this is just my view from a distance.

This is the quote of what he said..
Quote"It is human decency. We shouldn't live in a world where that is worth remarking on. However, until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn't exist anymore – I don't wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up – whilst we do live in this world, I am honoured to receive this."

if instead he would of said
Quote"It is human decency. We shouldn't live in a world where that is worth remarking on. However, until we wake up and show the world that hating someone, because of their gender, is abhorrent – whilst we do live in this world, I am honoured to receive this."

By naming and targeting you give a means to a platform for these people to get a voice - A voice that in this instance, changes what would of been a good 'ra-ra' story into more widely publicised lies about a minority. It is great to be outraged, but at what cost in the long run?

I hear what you are saying. But I guess my point is that this is why the good guy struggle vs the haters all the time.

When the haters spew filth and call for the extermination of a minority group... and are called on it? They say they that their words are taken out of context. Or that people are being "woke"... or anything other than apologizing.

But when THEY are called names, often factual names based on what they do - they claim that they are being "targeting" and demand apologies... and often the left concedes in some way.. or at least backs down.

DT's words are so much more gentle and less hateful than all the stuff coming from the other side for which they offer no excuse nor apology... or at worst say "they are just words and words cannot hurt"...  and yet they themselves claim such grievous injury from his words.

It's a false equivalency for which we keep falling.
