Although I don't play an instrument or sing very well, music is a very important part of my life.  I know this topic maybe a little worn, but I still think it is interesting, and tells others a little about us.  Please wear your age with honor.

For my first concert, I saw Jethro Tull as the headliner, and ZZ Top and The Eagles were the others bands.  This was before these bands really made it big.  I know this because I grew up in a smallish to medium size southern city and the venue was miniscule compared to what they would play later in their careers.

I don't remember the price of admission, but I could afford it on my minimum wage part-time job.  I was 16 or 17 at the time.

What about you?

My first concert, I think, was Black Oak Arkansas. I was visiting a friend near Little Rock and she got us tickets for my birthday.

While stationed in Louisiana, I saw Arlo Guthrie in a dive of a bar. The place was so bad they had chicken wire across the front of the stage so the audience couldn't throw things at the performers. A group of my Army buddies and I heard that Peter Frampton was going to be in concert. So we drove down the night before and removed most of our brain cells with recreational pharmaceuticals. When we got to the ticket booth we were told Peter Frampton was not in concert. It was Frank Zappa! That was a bizarre experience. I also saw Alice Cooper at LSU sometime later. That was another bizarre experience.

Then while stationed in Germany, I went to quite a few concerts. Uriah Heep put on a fantastic light show, Queen was great for theatrics, and Santana got a standing ovation playing "Europa". Nazareth, I cannot remember anything about except that I was there. I was told that I was carried home. Good times... I hope.

I was/am a HUGE fan of Blue Oyster Cult. I have seen them in concert a few times. In Germany, we went to see them and Aldo Nova was the "warm-up" band. Talk about high energy. Wowza. I had a t-shirt signed by Eric Bloom. I wore that thing to a frazzle.

In 1984, in Karlsruhe, Germany they had The Monsters of Rock tour in a soccer stadium. It was so hot! There is no shade in a soccer stadium.  AC/DC was headliner and that made David Lee Roth mad. He thought Van Halen should have top billing. He made an ass out of himself cursing at the audience, so everyone sat with their backs to the stage while he was up. Then Ozzie Osbourne came out and started spraying the audience with a garden hose to cool people off. He said he will never forget that we are the only reason he is on stage.

I don't recall the prices but on the tickets from Germany, they list the prices in DM (Deutsch Marks). This was decades before the "Euro". The wall was still standing in Berlin back then. The exchange rate was about 2 DM per dollar, so tickets ran about $8 -$9 advance and higher at the door.

Carly Rae Jepsen at the Big E on September 28, 2018.  Ticket cost $39 and it included all day admission to the Big E.  A very safe place to present female and people watch all day!

Going to outdoor events is a good way to see what people in your community look like!

Hi Everyone

Two major concerts that I attended before I changed my life around are John Denver and Dire Straits.  Were I lived at the time was not conducive for major stars.  I also went and watched Shakespearean plays when I could.

The concerts that I attended after were, in no particular order:

  • John Williamson
  • Taylor Swift
  • John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John & Anthony Warlow
  • Billy Connelly
  • Crowded House
  • Kasey Chambers
  • Mamma Mia Concert

I enjoyed them all and it's been awhile since I have gone out and it was always with someone, to a concert, which means I need to go out again for the evening and enjoy myself.

Love and Hugs

PS I do not remember the cost of these concerts, but the time spent at them was priceless. (edited)

The Beatles, Glasgow, 1964.  Probably their October concert, though they also played Glasgow in May.  Aside from the first few chords of "She Loves You", I couldn't hear anything except screaming!

It was a group outing with the Cub pack.  I am sure my parents had to pay something for the tickets, but I have no idea how much.

I was 10.

The Pirates (without Johnny Kidd, even I'm not that old!) Jenks Blackpool a few weeks after my 20th birthday. They were excellent. Don't remember paying as we knew the bouncer & my mate worked on his car & bike so he usually let us in for free. Jenks was a dumpwith watered down beer in wobbly plastic glasses served by a one armed barmaid so no 0oe would get hurt when the fight started. It had a sticky carpet & I loved the place!
