Hi ladies, so taking another step today.  Bought a pretty new jumper with scoop neck and need to do some upkeep on these pesky chest hairs.  I am fortunate in that I am not to furry but definitely need some maintenance in this area.  Not looking right now at permanent removal just best way to get started.  What do y'all recommend?
Waxing, shaving, some other method?

For body hair removal, shaving is easiest, waxing can give big ouches, and depilatories are not recommended by many because they can cause ingrown hairs for some.

Electrolysis and laser are other possibilities but those options are likely not what you want right now based on reading your post.

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Try a little kindness.  Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed brunette.

Thanks Chrissy, I'm not too concerned with the ouchie as it's not an excessive amount of hair fortunately.  Will waxing last longer than shaving?

Chrissy said it all. Laser is long term, takes a long while and only works well if you have dark hair. Electrolysis takes even longer. Only thing I would add is depilatories are peachy until you get a skin reaction to them, so if you consider them, test an area about the size of a penny first.

Waxing lasts somewhat longer, but razors are quicker.

You could also use an epilator. Similar principle as waxing, the hairs are getting ripped out. It takes longer than shaving, but lasts about a week for me, while with shaving I would have to repeat every other day.

I used an IPL, dark hairs all gone. That and HRT, which I'm certain reduced a lot of my body hair. I have minimal to no body hair at this point. Except my arms, but at least they are fine and blonde so they're difficult to see.

For the few persistent body hair I use an epilator. Facial I'm still working on. I'm all gray so it's electrolysis for me.
I left the door open, only a few came through. such is my life.

Yes, waxing should last a little longer than shaving.  Shaving is easier.  Less painful.

Estrogen tends to lighten body hair and thin it out (make it thinner or finer) for many.  That doctor managed medicine is likely not in your immediate plans.

It certainly did for me.  I didn't have a lot of body hair to begin with, but now I have none at all, and all I did was start HRT.  YMMV, but if someone is thinking about body hair removal, it is worth seeing what HRT alone will do for you before investing in the more expensive, painful, and time-consuming methods.

For legs, depilatories, epilators, and waxing are fine. These are not good options for the temporary chest hair removal.  The chest is much more sensitive and is subject ingrown hair and rashes.  Legs seem to handle these much better.

For temporary hair removal on the chest, shaving is the best option.  I've tried them all and yes, some offer longer results but that is mitigated by the irritation that resulted.

It takes just a few minutes to shave the chest in the shower each morning and you're pretty much good for the day.

For longer term, ILP will take care of the darker hairs.  HRT will help too. Shaving the lighter color hairs Will still need to be done, but not as often.

Paulie.

Absolutely  .. HRT removed all back hair *poof* gone. Not that I was a gorilla or anything but still, I had a lot of hair .. chest, belly, back. All gone. Why couldn't it do that for my face? Why does the body have different types of hair that respond so differently or not at all. Grrrr  >:(

I feel for you, facial hair follows different rules to the rest of the body and once established, it is much harder to eradicate. It isn't just you as I am sure you know. Maybe the journey of electrolysis is the reward? At least we could try telling each other that, you never know, it might make it feel less of a trudge.
