Quote from: Lori Dee on November 22, 2024, 05:02:33 PMI was just having a conversation about the election. There is finger-pointing going on saying the Democrats lost because of too much discussion about trans issues, while others say there wasn't enough.
Then another neighbor joined the conversation and set the record straight. It was not about the issues at all. Many Democrats refused to vote at all because they were not given a choice of candidate.
Many saw Harris thrust into the election as Biden's replacement and they were not happy with how Old Joe handled things. What they expected from the VP was just more of the same, so they stayed home.
If instead, candidates were vetted at the Convention as they usually are, then a choice can be made about which candidate should advance. But that didn't happen.
"Decisions are made by those who show up." Stay home and you get what everyone else decided for you.
From a very outside perspective... I kind of think Kamala lost because she couldn't believe she was running against the worlds most famous shyster. Watching those two together, it was like watching someone with years of experience in Reality TV, manipulation and showmanship, up against someone who was like "Wait, this is actually happening?" He ran rings around her because that's what he does. It was just another episode of The Apprentice.
I think anyone who basically comes in at the last minute though, has a massive uphill battle to fight. When you think you're going to have one person to vote for then get another, it throws a massive spanner in the works. We had that with the Conservatives in the UK. Though they were all as slimy as each other, they went through more leaders in the last few years than McDonalds went through people making Big Macs. It's a bit different because of how our system works but basically a slightly housetrained Chihuahua could have been in charge at the end, it would have made no difference. If you're sick of the regime, then it doesn't matter who's running it.
And to be fair, again from an outside perspective... Biden should never have ran in the first place. It boggles my mind that with however many people you have there, it ends up being basically two pensioners vying for the most powerful job in the world. One of whom only did it to stop the other one doing it. He clearly wasn't up to the job.
