Story by Darryl Coote (19 Nov 2024)

Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina has introduced a controversial bill to ban transgender individuals from using Capitol Hill bathrooms that align their gender identity.

The legislative move is targeted at Sarah McBride, a Democrat from Delaware who will be the first transgender member of Congress when she is sworn in this January.

The brief bill unveiled by Mace on Monday states: "A Member, Delegate, Resident, officer or employee of the House may not use a single-sex facility (including a restroom, changing room or locker room) in the Capitol or House Office Buildings, other than those corresponding to the biological sex of such individual."

The prohibition is to be enforced by the Sergeant-at-Arms, according to the legislation.

Responding to accusations online that the bill was targeting McBride, Mace responded, "Yes and then some."

McBride responded to the bill by calling it "a blatant attempt from far right-wing extremists to distract from the fact that have no real solutions to what Americans are facing."

"We should be focused on bringing down the cost of housing, health care, and child care, not manufacturing culture wars," she said on X. "Delawareans sent me here to make the American dream more affordable and accessible and that's what I'm focused on."

Rep. Mace should be impeached for violation of Title VII.

She swore to uphold the Constitution and admitted to discrimination in the workplace.

The sheer evilness of the Repugnicans is mind-boggling.  I hope she defies the order and takes them to court.  Surely there is some court somewhere that still upholds the constitution.

The culture wars really need to end. We have far bigger and more important issues to deal with in this country. Legislation like that saddens me. Hugs

I think if it were me, I'd take a leaf from Batman vs Superman, and leave these little gifts lying around...

(For those who haven't seen the movie, there's a line delivered by Holly Hunter, playing a US Senator where she says: "You can call me whatever you like. You could p**s in a jar and call it Granny's Peach Tea; take a weapon of assassination and call it deterrence. You won't fool a fly or me. I'm not gonna drink it.")

This whole culture wars thing makes no sense. It's not about culture. It's about being human.

I was just having a conversation about the election. There is finger-pointing going on saying the Democrats lost because of too much discussion about trans issues, while others say there wasn't enough.

Then another neighbor joined the conversation and set the record straight. It was not about the issues at all. Many Democrats refused to vote at all because they were not given a choice of candidate.

Many saw Harris thrust into the election as Biden's replacement and they were not happy with how Old Joe handled things. What they expected from the VP was just more of the same, so they stayed home.

If instead, candidates were vetted at the Convention as they usually are, then a choice can be made about which candidate should advance. But that didn't happen.

From a very outside perspective... I kind of think Kamala lost because she couldn't believe she was running against the worlds most famous shyster. Watching those two together, it was like watching someone with years of experience in Reality TV, manipulation and showmanship, up against someone who was like "Wait, this is actually happening?" He ran rings around her because that's what he does. It was just another episode of The Apprentice.

I think anyone who basically comes in at the last minute though, has a massive uphill battle to fight. When you think you're going to have one person to vote for then get another, it throws a massive spanner in the works. We had that with the Conservatives in the UK. Though they were all as slimy as each other, they went through more leaders in the last few years than McDonalds went through people making Big Macs. It's a bit different because of how our system works but basically a slightly housetrained Chihuahua could have been in charge at the end, it would have made no difference. If you're sick of the regime, then it doesn't matter who's running it.

And to be fair, again from an outside perspective... Biden should never have ran in the first place. It boggles my mind that with however many people you have there, it ends up being basically two pensioners vying for the most powerful job in the world. One of whom only did it to stop the other one doing it. He clearly wasn't up to the job.
