Story by James Factora (31 Jan 2025)
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is rolling back anti-discrimination policies that protect trans people in the workplace.
Shortly after Trump removed two EEOC commissioners from the department, EEOC Acting Chair Andrea Lucas announced the changes on January 28, according to a press release. In response to President Donald Trump's first anti-trans executive order of his second administration, Lucas stated that "one of her priorities... is to defend the biological and binary reality of sex and related rights, including women's rights to single-sex spaces at work."
To that end, Lucas removed the EEOC's "pronoun app," which allowed employees to list their pronouns alongside their display names in software program Microsoft 365. She has also removed the X marker as an option on the intake form for filing a charge of discrimination, as well as the prefix "Mx." and has "removed materials promoting gender ideology on the Commission's internal and external websites and documents." Lastly, the press release stated that Lucas has begun a review of the EEOC's "Know Your Rights" poster that is required to be displayed in all covered workplaces. Currently, "sex" is listed as a protected class on the poster, which includes sexual orientation and gender identity.
According to human resources outlet HR Dive... the EEOC also ordered its employees this week to stop processing claims alleging discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

So the EEOC is false advertising. And should be the Unequal Employment Opportunity Commission. Got it. Change all those flyers and T-shirts to read UEOC.
