I made an appointment for a consultation for hormones next month when I'm on vacation. I'm incredibly excited, and scared. This is something I've been thinking about for the last week. 😁

Congratulations!

That is one of the hardest things we do when getting started. Just be open and honest with your provider, and it should go smoothly. After that, things tend to get a little easier. Not always perfect but the courage you show by getting this started will carry you.

Let us know how it goes.

Dear Alana:

Thank you for sharing...  yes, for certain, being apprehensive and/or scared regarding
initial consultations for HRT and other transgender medical visits can be a normal thing
that many members here on the Forum have experienced.
Fortunately the medical community is for the most part very accommodating and respectful
with their patients regarding these kinds of healthcare needs.

In my opinion, I would best advise you to go to your appointment with honesty, self-assurance
and confidence when presenting your needs.

I am wishing you success and happiness as you begin a serious part of your journey.

Along with your other readers and followers I will eagerly be following your updates and
posting as you feel comfortable sharing.

Be certain to take some time to read more of other members journeys and experiences that they
have shared on the Forum.

HUGS, and my best wishes to out to you. ❤️❤️❤️

I hope it goes well for you!  Try to relax between now and then, anticipation can make one edgy!
Just be yourself at the consultation.
Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

The magnitude of this decision hit me hard when I got home from work last night. I'm feeling so many emotions it's hard to handle.

I understand!   Although it may be difficult, do try to relax between now and then as this anticipation can make one quite emotional and edgy.

Also keep in mind that this consulation doesn't commit you to anything (beyond paying the therapist's bill :) )  It's not like you're boarding an express train to SRS or anything.

The goal at every step should be to find out what works best for you.

That makes sense, for sure.

I feel much better today. I went to the gym this morning and lifted weights, and ran a few miles. I feel confident in the decisions I'll make.

Alana, what you are feeling is normal. If you weren't 'incredibly excited and scared', then I would be concerned!

In most cases, starting a new medication is just a tiny step. However, starting hormones is in a league all of its own. There is no prescription I have ever taken which was so life-changing. On the way home after my appointment, even before I had picked up the prescription, a wave of euphoria came over me. The one word I felt was 'freedom'.

Even though I've only made my appointment, I already feel some of that freedom. My birthday is in a few weeks, and I've spent half my life having these feelings, it feels liberating to finally do something about it.
