Facial Hair... going away?

Hi everyone,

The past say two weeks I've noticed my facial hair (Eeeewwww!) getting softer and light in color (YAY!) So my question is does this mean that it's going away? I mean I've heard of that happening in some people, mainly who are under 20 years of age (which I am), but I just wanted to get someone elses opinion. Also, I've only been on HRT for about I'd say close to 6 weeks so it makes me a little skeptical that something like that could happen so quickly. Anyway if any of you could answer my questions I would totally appreciate it. Thanks everyone! :D

It doesn't "go away", it slows growing to the rate similar to females. The hair root is still there and the hair still grows, as you can see many women have very fine, light facial hair - and many more thicker, darker hair necessitating electrolysis for them too. If you're young enough, it's likely the actual male beard will not appear since it's keyed by your genetics and puberty. If your beard hasn't appeared by now and you're on hrt, it's likely it won't appear except as normal looking facial hair for a women.

It actually hasn't appeared but was getting darker for a while and now I can go a week and nobody notices that I need a shave, except for on my upper lip which gets a slight but semi-unnoticable shadow.

So I guess my question now would be is if it's getting lighter in color, softer in texture, and less thick does that mean it's becoming more female in pattern?

When I first started hormones, I have to say it did the same thing.  Regardless though, it takes like two weeks for it to grow to something noticeable now, but you can still sort of like feel the roughness on the face.  People wouldn't be able to tell if I had facial hair or not until they like feel the skin.  It's not going to go away, it probably will lighten up in color, as mine did too, and maybe some of it will thin out as well.  You're probably still going to need to get it removed, but now it's just slowly taking the option of laser away :)

I never was able to grow a beard or anything, but like, I'm still going to get it removed and am because it bothers me to not have smooth skin :P  I could probably get away with it if I just shaved like once every week or two, but I would just rather get rid of it all together.  Maybe you're different though and it will thin out more for you than it did me, who knows :)

if you pluck it or wax it, it will go away faster(growth will slow), shaving is fine but I hate shaving

You and me both, LOL, but I'm too afraid of the pain of waxing or plucking to actually get it done. I won't even get my eyebrows shaped because of that reason! :icon_hahano:

I guess I'll just have to get over my fear or... shave (Damn!)

Waxing does not inhibit growth.

with HRT it can make the effects come faster by weakening the follicle. - even without HRT it does. I'm not talking about permanent removal rather slower growth and more soft. If your those people that have 5-clock shadows than I'll agree with you but I meant not fully developed facial hair.

so yea

Lol, all this BS about waxing inhibiting growth and yet the medical field disagrees.  Anyone got studies that aren't published by a brand name?

Really who cares about the effects of facial waxing and wether it inhibits growth, slow growth, or just gives you a smooth face without razor burn/bumps? My main question is that will my facial hair growth, depending on what I've told you, become more female in pattern, texture, and/or growth rate?

Sorry if that posts sounds a little angry it's just I really want to find what I asked about out or at least get a good opinion on it.

Well i tell you this, I've gone 2 weeks without the need to pluck or shave- it did grow back but it's not noticable.

Plus I've never fully developed a mature bread and HRT does slow down it's growth especially in youngsters.

In fact, the epilator that I used said if you see softening hair and your own HRT- it's because of the hormones. The epilator simply makes the process faster

Wow.  I love the way misinformation spreads.  It's like if people want it to be true, then suddenly it is.

She asked will her hair growth become more similar to a Genetic Females hair patterns, and the answer is yes.

Simply put, it does thin out a little, and the hair growth rate slows.

Its not misinformation, its information.

If you are a hairy, hairy person, it wont really help you, but if you had very little hair growth to begin with, it will make it so that you can go many days without needing to shave.

EVEN GG have to occasionaly shave, Kalt.

I'm afraid that androgen-driven hair on the face won't just go away.  I'd like to believe it, but I've never seen nor verifiably heard of such a thing.  If all of the hairs on your face that you were biologically destined to get haven't yet popped up, then they won't.  But hairs that are already there... I don't believe so.  The growth rate will decrease, and maybe some follicles somehow will become dormant, but I've just never heard of such a thing.

I know that it is not a definite thing and if I gave you or anyone else the impression that I thought it was I do apologize. Personally I've heard from quite a few sources that people under the age of about 17 who are not yet completely through puberty have a good chance of slight to substantial facial hair reduction, and even still that may not be a defnite thing. So trust me I take any information that is given to me as variable and not always what happens. ;)

Well I have substantial hair growth, even though when I started HRT I was far from having a "Full Beard" (so-to-say), but I can feel and see it getting lighter so I think I have good odds of it going vellus.

I agree with this but there have been cases of that happening, it going vellus, and I'm thinking that might be what's happening or at least I hope so. Even if it was still there and was not as coarse it would be a great improvement.

Can you provide any information about this, androgen-driven hair going vellus?  I agree, anecdotally I've heard that as well, but never more than "I know someone who knew someone..."

I'm not trying to crush your hopes, I just don't want to get them up and be let down.  There would be nothing greater than not having to undergo the pain of hair removal, but I'd just be surprised if such a thing were possible.  In my own case, I started HRT last year at 20 years old, never had much hair growth, definitely not enough for a beard, maybe enough for a weird patchy goatee.  But I've still had to have every hair removed, though I can tell that hair growth did slow.  I think it may be possible that some of my hairs lightened in color, but they didn't revert to vellousness -- they just stayed coarse and palpable.
