I need to admit something what I didn't mentioned in my introduction.
I got epilepsy from 1980 and I just readed at Viki's about HRT and now I'm not sure, do I have any chance to change my gender from male to female?
Am I the only one with the epilepsy or maybe some of you also have it?

Thank you,

Michelle

Hello Michelle.

I'm not a medical expert by any stretch of the imagination but I would advise you to consult your doctor or specialist to get the answer your question.  While there may be others here who have epilepsy and successfully transitioned, there are many forms of epilepsy that each situation would be different.  HRT may not not cause any complications, but this is a decision that competent medical practitioners should decide.

Hi Steph,

yes, '' there are many forms of epilepsy '' that's so true, I don't have the hard one, when people fall down on the floor, Thank God, at least these form I don't have ... I have the lighter form, I take 9 pills every day (3 times a day) ... I was in the clinic this Monday to consult about an operation, but even if they do this operation, it won't stop those epilepsy attacks 100% but just only about 40-60% and it costed me almost as an new BMW.They do only about 10 operations a year because of the costs.
I have some money i the bank but I'd rather spend that money on my TS changes, so I said no for now to the doctors. I need to go on the same clinic in next 2-3 months and than will stayed in for 2-3 weeks and that's the same clinic where they do TS operations, so I will go an afternoon to talk with one of the therapyst there - good idea   :)  ... maybe that can be start of my new life  :) !!
'' but this is a decision that competent medical practitioners should decide. '' I agreed on that one too, I just wonder if I'm the only one here, I hope I didn't brake any rules, asking about HRT problems.

Thank you Steph  :icon_flower:,

No you didn't break any rules.  You can discuss HRT and related issues, but we do not allow the discussion dosages.

The rules can be found HERE, and they include the rules regarding HRT.

I'm not and or am I planning to undergo surgery but I do have epilepsy.

It is medically controlled and has been for a number of years now. Mine is the fall down type described by NightAngel but I have not fallen down for quite a while.

Hope this helps

Hi Dear Shelley,

now i'm speechless ... I don't know, I'm ''glad'' that I'm not the only one but on the other hand, I'd rather see that I would be the only one with the epilepsy in this community.
Really sorry to hear that Shelley  :'( ,

Love, :icon_bunch:

Hi Nightangel

Thankyou for your sentiments. I think that my epilepsy is something that I have learned to live with. In some ways it's a bit like TGism in that those who don't have it have trouble understanding that we are no different because of it. We are still the person they know and hopefully love.

Is there still a kind of prejudice about epilepsy? I had thought people were past that and it was just treated as another chronic condition, like diabetes. How disappointing.

Unfortunately there is still a misconception with it. For some reason there appears to be a link in some peoples minds to mental illness. I personally don't tell people unless I'm in a group where there is understanding or where someone has come out.

Hi Shelley,

QuoteI think that my epilepsy is something that I have learned to live with.
yes, just like me,also I probably wouldn't mentioned it, if I wouldn't readed that article about HRT at Viki's.
Now I'm a little afraid that I will be rejected at therapists because epilepsy.Well, will see, first I need to found one and talked with him.

Thank you Shelley and Steph!

Michelle

Hi Dennis,

Unfortunately yes, there are still some people who thinking that we are freaks of nature or something, in my country people treated as well, but still you can find people who don't understand what epilepsy is.
Many friends just leave you after you tell them about epilepsy etc ... this was also the cause, why I didn't mentioned my epilepsy on the introduction site. Well now you all know and I hope that you won't leaved me, because I will needed your moral support in the future if I go in transition.

Thank you Dennis,

Michelle

Hey there Michelle.

Your therapist should not make any assessment on any medical condition that you may have, that is the task of doctors and surgeons.  The therapist is there to evaluate your mentality, and your emotional state etc...  They may make a referral to medical doctors because of your physical condition, but they should not reject you because of epilepsy.  If they did I would suggest that you are well rid of them.

It is so sad that people fear what they don't know.  Many TS have to suffer ridicule and discrimination simply because people don't understand.  However you have have to suffer the indignities from two sides, those who don't understand TS and those who don't understand epilepsy.  A very tough spot to be in.
