Title: How trans visibility became a trap

Article summary: The author, a transgender writer, reflects on the impact of their public visibility and advocacy for trans rights. Despite believing that increased visibility would lead to acceptance, they now face a political climate where their existence is under threat.

This article is one I found thought provoking and affecting. The importance of hearing other people's stories and being able to share my own in my own voice is huge. Sites like this provide a safe space to be seen and acknowledged as who I am, even though I can't face the world as myself.

I hope that I can give strength and support to those of you who have the courage to share your thoughts, feelings and stories here. And by sharing myself maybe I can help others as well.

Much love to you all.

I'm hoping I've posted this in the correct section, sorry if not.

I like to live by the rule of common sense. You can be transgender and visible online but certain things are your business and your business alone. People can be problematic sometimes but the block button serves a good purpose.

There will always be negative experiences but it's how you respond to them.

I firmly believe that being visible is better for the individual and for all of us collectively than staying in the closet.  I think it is important not to blame ourselves for causing the current levels of persecution.  Trans people aren't being persecuted because they are visible.  They are being persecuted because of a political agenda that needed convenient victims.

Having said which, I fully understand and support anyone who doesn't feel safe coming out now.
