Hate crime legislation in Scotland will be strengthened early this year, after the Scottish government backed a proposal for a Sentencing of Offences Aggravated by Prejudice (Scotland) Bill.

Legislation to tackle hate-crime culture is so welcome, says Alan Dickson
CAPABILITY Scotland welcomed this week's announcement by Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill that the Scottish Government is supporting Green MSP Patrick Harvie's proposed Sentencing of Offences Aggravated by Prejudice (Scotland) Bill to tackle hate crime against disabled and Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LBGT) people.

Capability Scotland has been working together with other organisations representing disabled and LGBT people to achieve legal measures that tackle this unacceptable form of discrimination and prejudice.
