I Ching is indeed myserious book to interpret literally. As I know, less than 10 people in history interpreted it correctly, and the McKenna brothers should be included, I think.

I-ching is for the old heaven, and the one for the upcoming new heaven is like:

oooo, that reminds me. this year  is what is known as a sabbatical year in jewish theology. basically it is the last year in a week of years (starting last september). the tribulation period (from revelations) is a seven year period (also a full week) divided into two parts. the second half is called "the great tribulation". three and a half years into "next week" would put the great tribulation starting in the midst of 2012...

Actually, prophecy is an effective tool of power.  No matter what you come up with, if you can get people to believe it, you have gained some power over them.  Who knows, your wild ass guess.... oh.... I mean prophecy... might even come true. Then, you really have them by the nose.

Your co-worker was watching the history channel this week.  But not closely enough. As explained in other replies to your post the Mayans and other cultures predicted a galactic solstice. The constellations restart their trips across the sky.  End of one age beginning of another. Its an excuse to have a party, that's all.

I am not concerned about the end of the world as I do not think that it will occur in my lifetime. Now, the end of the United States? That I am more concerned about.

Since that will give me a little time to get ready, everyone is invited to my house on that day to watch for the end, just in case.  Hope you like good southern barbecue!  Bring your own lawn chairs, because I'm kinda short on them.  But I have a nice view of the sky so we can watch the asteroid hit.  Maybe Cindy will come and bring one of her telescopes.
