Or will Y2K12 turn out like Y2K?

My coworker was rambling at me about the magnetic north pole of the super black hole in the center of our galaxy being aligned with the earth, as well as prophesies and rubbish like that.

So, will the world end on Dec 21, 2012?

Yep its on off the (Mayan) calender  now all we have to do is convince the rest of the world of that.

oh i almost forgot the rest of the world uses another calender.
"But who is that on the other side of you?"

The reason that's been latched onto as (yet another) end of the world is because the Mayan Calendar ends some time in December of that year. The reason it's taken seriously is because the Mayan Calendar is far more accurate than anything else, including the "modern" Gregorian calendar

What people neglect to keep in mind is that the Maya believed in a cyclical universe, just like the Hindu do. According to this train of thought, each age is destroyed by a great cataclysm, after which the earth renews itself and mankind is given another chance. 2012 isn't the end of the world to them, merely the end of the present age and the beginning of another.

I've definitely learned to respect prophecy through comparative mythology and religious studies - you'd be stunned by how common the main themes are to every tradition out there, and how deadly accurate many past prophecies have been.

I would take it with a pinch of salt though when modern doom mongers latch on to a new date with a new theory of Pole-shift or meteor strike or whatever. They did it in 2000, 2003, then 2007. I'm not saying those things don't happen and that they can't be predicted, but unless one really studies prophecy in-depth, I doubt you're going to get it right until after the fact.

My two-cents...

2012 won't be the end of the world.  But it might be the end of the stock market or oil supply.

With any luck it will.  Well the world as we know it.  Which could be a good thing.

Or the day Mother Earth finally hits the Global Warming skids, and we REALLY start getting our butts handed to us.

If there is anyone out there thinking that the world will end, please sign over your estate to me on that date.  I'll take care of it for you through the apocalypse.

We have at least 30 more years of oil at the current rate of consumption.  40 if your an optimist.

The stock market, that ->-bleeped-<- was nothing but an illusion anyway.

Heres the breakdown down on the date December 21st, 2012.

The I Ching, the famous prophesizing book, studied by the McKenna brothers who arrived at the 2012 end date by using fractals. Starting from a table of differences between one hexagram and the next, they developed a Mandelbrot fractal in which each level is 64 times greater then the one below it. They then laid this fractal pattern on top of a time scale. The peaks and troughs of the pattern relate to the level of connectedness or novelty in any span of time, whether it covers a day, millennia or even since the beginning of time. By matching the levels of the pattern with key periods in history, they determined it would fit best if the end of the time scale was December 22, 2012. This is the only point in which the level of novelty reaches its maximum, and everything that happens is new.which is composed of 64 hexagrams, or six-line figures.

On top of all this they state that they calculated the 2012 end date in the early 1970's, long before they had heard of the Mayan calendar. And to their credit, the original 1975 edition of The Invisible Landscape makes no mention of the Maya. If this is true, then it would be prudent to consider their result as much more than a coincidence, and to take their ideas seriously

Then there is the Mayan calender ending in 2012...

Then there is the fact that every 200 or so years we come in to what is known as a period of SOLAR MAXIMUM with the Sun, this is going to happen in December of 2012, the last known solar maximum occurred in the 1800's, and instantly lit fires to many forest worldwide, if a solar flare is released in our direction again, it is possible that any form of computer technology will be destroyed. What is occuring is the flipping of our suns magnetic field.  Yeah the giant ball in the sky magnetic field FLIPS.

Then represents an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic (path of the Sun), what that ancient Maya recognized as the Sacred Tree. This is an event that has been coming to
resonance very slowly over thousands and thousands of years

Basically It is the four combinations of those things that have made 2012 a siginificant date in history and placing emphasis on december of 2012.

My biggest thing is the Solar Maximum that could very well release enough solar radiation to destroy all technology on the earth, it is very real, and it did acually hit earth in the 1800's, and it did wipe out the only two pieces of electronic technology on earth at that time.  But otherwise no I dont think the world is gonna end on 2012, just maybe your computer lifes.

nothing new, lyrics from a few decades ago:

Broken glass everywhere
People pissing on the stairs, you know they just
Dont care
I cant take the smell, I cant take the noise
Got no money to move out, I guess I got no choice
Rats in the front room, roaches in the back
Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat
I tried to get away, but I couldnt get far
Cause the man with the tow-truck repossessed my car

Chorus:
Dont push me, cause Im close to the edge
Im trying not to loose my head
Its like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder
How I keep from going under

Standing on the front stoop, hangin out the window
Watching all the cars go by, roaring as the breezes
Blow
Crazy lady, livin in a bag
Eating out of garbage piles, used to be a ->-bleeped-<--hag
Search and test a tango, skips the life and then go
To search a prince to see the last of senses
Down at the peepshow, watching all the creeps
So she can tell the stories to the girls back home
She went to the city and got so so so ditty
She had to get a pimp, she couldnt make it on her
Own

Chorus:
Its like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder
How I keep from goin under

My brothers doing fast on my mothers t.v.
Says she watches to much, is just not healthy
All my children in the daytime, dallas at night
Cant even see the game or the sugar ray fight
Bill collectors they ring my phone
And scare my wife when Im not home
Got a bum education, double-digit inflation
Cant take the train to the job, theres a strike
At the station
Me on king kong standin on my back
Cant stop to turn around, broke my sacroiliac
Midrange, migraine, cancered membrane
Sometimes I think Im going insane, I swear I might
Hijack a plane!

Chorus:

My son said daddy I dont wanna go to school
Cause the teachers a jerk, he must think Im a
Fool
And all the kids smoke reefer, I think itd be
Cheaper
If I just got a job, learned to be a street sweeper
I dance to the beat, shuffle my feet
Wear a shirt and tie and run with the creeps
Cause its all about money, aint a damn thing
Funny
You got to have a con in this land of milk and
Honey
They push that girl in front of a train
Took her to a doctor, sowed the arm on again
Stabbed that man, right in his heart
Gave him a transplant before a brand new start
I cant walk through the park, cause its crazy
After the dark
Keep my hand on the gun, cause they got me on the
Run
I feel like an outlaw, broke my last fast jaw
Hear them say you want some more, livin on a
Seesaw

Chorus:

A child was born, with no state of mind
Blind to the ways of mankind
God is smiling on you but hes frowning too
Cause only God knows what you go through
You grow in the ghetto, living second rate
And your eyes will sing a song of deep hate
The places you play and where you stay
Looks like one great big alley way
Youll admire all the number book takers
Thugs, pimps, pushers and the big money makers
Driving big cars, spending twenties and tens
And you wanna grow up to be just like them
Smugglers, scrambles, burglars, gamblers
Pickpockets, peddlers and even pan-handlers
You say Im cool, Im no fool
But then you wind up dropping out of high school
Now youre unemployed, all null n void
Walking around like youre pretty boy floyd
Turned stickup kid, look what you done did
Got send up for a eight year bid
Now your man is took and youre a may tag
Spend the next two years as an undercover ->-bleeped-<-
Being used and abused, and served like hell
Till one day you was find hung dead in a cell
It was plain to see that your life was lost
You was cold and your body swung back and forth
But now your eyes sing the sad sad song
Of how you lived so fast and died so young

The stock market, that ->-bleeped-<- was nothing but an illusion anyway.

Hallelujah!

Due to fractional reserve banking (where you can lend money you don't actually have), only about 4% of the world's "wealth" actually, really exists. Since the gold standard was dropped (where money had to be backed by an equal value in gold) our money has literally become an illusion. If 4% of the banking customers of the world decided to withdraw their money at the same time, the world economy would collapse. - Makes you think, doesn't it...

Thanks for explaining that so well. 2012 might prove a very interesting year. Many of the timed prophecies made by Native Americans during their conquest by European settlers are also due right about now, (The seven generations, the white bison, etc.) and they have a remarkable track record for accuracy.

If you had to press me - and you did - it was Bill ->-bleeped-<-ing Clinton eliminating the Glass-Segal Act.  But that's a really long, and very complex explanation.  Old Bill was no more a Democrat than Herbert Hoover, and with less effect.  And that's his wife too.

Yeah. Hillary scares me. I don't trust her for a second. She's the exception to womanhood that proves the rule. Just like Margaret Thatcher was. *shiver* OH! TOUCH WOOD!
